For those of you with larger families, could you recommend what hotel you like at Disneyland? We live in Southern California and usually just drive to DL for the day, but are planning our first multiday stay in September. Dates are flexible, but it is looking like 9/4-9/7 might be the best. We will have my husband and I, and 4 children (10, 7, 4 and 2). Some of the most recommended (Howard Johnson for one, just checked their site) apparently have rooms that only go up to 5 people.

Sooo ... any recs for rooms that hold larger families but are still close to the park? Price isn't the top consideration in a hotel, but there is a limit to the budget too! :)

I have a room booked at Desert Inn and Suites, I booked a parlor suite which has 2 rooms adjoining with only 1 entrance (which makes me feel safer) 4 queen beds, 1 1/2 bathrooms and a pull out sofa. I know they also have a bigger size room also. It is located pretty much right across the street from the Disneyland entrance. I got some good reviews on the place. Im excited to stay there in December and its only 3 adults and 2 children and by the pictures it looks like more than enough room!

here's the site, they have rooms for up to 10 guests :) http://www.anaheimdesertinn.com/room_suites.htm

We have not had our Disney trip yet, but I've booked the Desert Inn and Suites for my family of 10. (we got the room with 4 queen beds, 2 full bathrooms, and a pull-out sofa) It looks to be a very close walk, which is important to me with so many young ones.

Best Western Park Place Suites is where my family of 6 likes to stay. It is the closest hotel offsite. It is reasonable. We don't have to reserve two rooms. It isn't luxury but the free breakfast is great. Small pool but we don't stay there for a pool. Good luck!

We like the Desert Inn or the Del Sol. They are both very close to the pedestrian entrance and fit our budget better than the other motels on Harbor. Not luxury, but clean and we spend most of our time at the parks anyway.

Have you considered some of the nearby timeshares?

Once our family expanded to 5, we started bumping up against the "only accommodates 4" hotels. Plus hotel rooms just became so cramped. That's when we discovered timeshares. Many timeshares are 2BR (plus a full kitchen and living room), so you have lots of room to spread out.

The DL area timeshares (other than the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian, which is hard to get into and very expensive) aren't that great and aren't very plentiful, but the extra space is great. (Orlando is FAR better for timeshares.)

The timeshares near Disneyland are:

Villas at Disney's Grand Californian (of course)
Dolphin's Cove
WorldMark Anaheim
Peacock Suites

A little more distant, but VERY nice is Marriott's Newport Coast Villas.

We have a big family too (four kids) and for our upcoming trips we are choosing the Kids Suite at HoJo (just past Mimi's on Harbor, very walkable) and the Double Queen/Bunk Bed Suite at Park Vue (right across the street from the DL entrance). While we've stayed at both hotels before, this will be our first time in these suites.

If you have an Entertainment Card, you can get 20% off at HoJo on THESE dates (at least one of your nights is available for discount).

Also, sign up for HoJo's Super Family Rates HERE and you can get 50% off on certain nights (they email you when the dates become available). While these aren't applicable for the Kids Suite, we're keeping this as an option for booking two rooms for our family since we might try a two-adjoining-room situation with that 50% rate and it would be a better deal than suites at other places.

Will you fit in a kids suite at Hojo? 2 yo could be in a crib. I have one reserved for that week that I plan to cancel.

Our younger DD used a Pack-N-Play till she was 3.5, so I was assuming a 2yr old could do that too for the Kids Suite at HoJo. :thumbsup2

If you would need a full kitchen, there is the Residence Inn. It is not the closest hotel, but it is walkable. Also, it is on the ART route.

We like Residence in Maingate, clean, great breakfast, free grocery shopping.

My question about the residence inn, can you catch the parking tram? It is so close.
Also what does the grocery shopping consist of. I am think about our dec stay.

The RI is on the ART route, and you can catch the shuttle there or go next door to the Motel 6 to catch the shuttle. Depending on where your room is at the RI, the Motel 6 shuttle can be closer. Since Pumbaa is not open every day, it isn't really dependable for using the parking tram.

For grocery shopping, you drop off your list at the front desk in the morning, and they buy everything and put it away for you in your room.

Malcon10t in the real expert on the RI. Let's hope she chimes in here.

I like the Anaheim Plaza. We did the suite (which was just actually two rooms with the connecting door open) for $109 a night. No breakfast but they had two refrigerators and two microwaves. We just brought cereal, milk, juice and fruit.
