Hotel for 5 while DH is at convention - HoJo too far?

We are excitedly planning for a 1st trip to DL to coincide with my DH's convention next April. Woo hoo!! SO happy about this.

The conference will be at the Hilton Anaheim &/or the convention center. We need a room for 5 for our first four nights that is not too far away. The Hilton Anaheim only fits 4 per room, so that is out.

Photos of the family suites at Howard Johnson look perfect, and I love the distance of the hotel to Disneyland. Looks great for the rest of us to enjoy while DH is at the conference (we'd hit DL for one day and DT Disney on another day), but I don't want to make it too tough on him.

My main question is - how bad is the walk between the convention center/Hilton Anaheim and the Howard Johnson? Walkable? Or would it require ART or a cab to do? Especially wondering how it would be for walking if it is hot out.

If the HoJo is too far, is there another hotel I should consider nearer the convention area that would work well and fit 5?

We will be spending about 3 nights at a Disney resort after our first 4 nights, so this will be a split stay.

:thanks: for your help!

For me, the walk would be a problem. It would not require a cab or shuttle, but it would be too far (about a 25+ minute walk) from the Hilton/Convention Center to make return trips during the day practical. If your husband wouldn't need to return to the room during the day, then the HoJo shouldn't be too far away. Have you looked at the SpringHill Suites on the corner of Katella and Harbor? That is a new hotel, much closer to the Hilton. Also, look at the Desert Palms and the Portofino -- I think they have rooms that can fit 5.

Doubletree suites would accommodate 5 and it's within walking distance to the convention center. We stayed there in Oct and we were very pleased with the rooms. We also walked to DL in the mornings and used ART in the evenings. The pool isn't anything special but we only go for a couple hours on our one day off.

Thank you so much for the great suggestions, theluckyrabbit & lmdboss! Those were some great options that I had not considered.

I think SpringHill Suites looks like a great fit for us. Nice room with the bunk beds our boys are excited about, perfect location near the convention center, and free breakfast. I love the idea of it being an easy walk, so DH can get breaks in the room when needed while the conference is going on - and not need to carry everything all the time. Much more convenient for him.

We have a longer walk to Disney maybe, but we are just happy to be there so don't mind. :)

I walk from
HoJo to Alamo which is very close to the convention centre and it's not to bad very easy maybe 15min walk

We stayed at the hojo for a week while my husband attended a conference and he seemed fine with the walk. Occasionally caught a cab or took ART but he mostly walked. It worked well-he often appreciated a chance to stretch his legs and he'd also just meet us in the park on his way home some evenings.

The Hilton Anaheim only fits 4 per room, so that is out.

Check again. I just looked at a random date with 2 adults 3 kids, and was given a 2 queen bed studio. Description:

"Furnished with two queen-sized beds, our studio suites offer an extra large multifunctional room which serves as a living room, dining room, and bedroom all in one. Studios are ideal for executives or families looking for some extra space. Each studio measures more than 620 sq. ft., the equivalent of two of our standard guest rooms. They include a sofa, and a wet bar with refrigerator. Floor-to-ceiling picture windows allow commanding views of either the Disneyland Resort, the pool, sundecks or the surrounding area."

Now, I'll admit that the random date I chose this April is significantly lower ($159/night) than next year's random April date ($345), but they do have rooms that accommodate 5.

What about Desert Palms Hotel and Suites?
