My daughter has a random day off from school March 5&6. Unfortunately there is a huge convention in Anaheim that week, and hotel prices have been astronomical for awhile. I’m trying to avoid driving up Thursday morning and back Thursday evening. Are there any nice and safe areas that are further enough away so the hotels won’t be crazy high so we don’t have to drive up early from San Diego? Any hotel suggestions?

Delta Marriott. Its way down on harbor. I think it's technically Garden Grove. I stayed there for a night last year with my friend and her sister. It's very quiet and has comfy beds. The drive is 5-7 minutes from the garage. That's the only hotel I've stayed in around DL.

Thank you @midnight star

Sold out! Every decent hotel is sold out.... and there are some really scary ones available for a ton of money. Looks like we’ll be driving in from SD bright and early! Poor timing of parent teacher conferences and this darn convention!

I stayed at Hotel Pepper Tree many years ago. It's a very cute boutique hotel closer to Knotts. I only stay closer to Disneyland now, but wouldn't hesitate to return there if my dates were sold out.

Natural Products Expo West! Been to that show a few times. It's absolutely massive. Usually some free food available around the area. If you've ever had the urge to meet Bob from Bob's Red Mill or Justin from Justin's peanut butter, they'll be there.

The first time I went to that show it was a last minute decision and I barely convinced my employer to pay for me to go, so we stayed at the Marriott at Newport Beach for affordability's sake. I think it was like a 25 minute drive.

We are staying at the Sheraton Garden Grove next weekend because I couldn’t find something closer (last minute trip) that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. We will Uber to and from the parks.

Thank you! I thought about checking hotels in Newport Beach. 25 minutes is closer than San Diego!

We are staying at the BW meridian inn & suites next week for the exact same reason. 10 minute drive. Has great reviews and free BW breakfast. $120 a night for a suite

Orange County has lots of hotels! There are some in Costa Mesa and Irvine and Orange, too. I’d definitely stay somewhere up here - I’d rather drive or Uber 20 minutes than all the way from SD, personally. I mean, I live in Orange, but we stay in SD a lot because if we’re doing something there, we’d usually rather stay...

I recently stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Buena Vista for a conference and it was a simple Uber ride to the parks.
Buena Vista? Do you mean Buena Park?

OP: Don't forget to try Expedia, Priceline, Hotwire, etc. Not all hotels sell out their convention block of rooms. If they still have available rooms closer to your dates, you might get a deal.

It’s $260 on 3/4. Darn natural foods convention!!!! 😂😂😂

Excellent advice!!!! Thank you! I may keep checking and see if I can get a great deal, because right now anything name brand like a Marriott or Hilton in OC is basically sold out or insanely expensive. Crazy!!!! Worst case, we’ll drive up for a day trip- we’ve done it before. Just not my favorite option!

I was thinking Buena Park too since that where we stayed around new years at Fairfield Inn. Was far less than comparable hotels in Anaheim but less than 10 minutes drive.

Still - I checked on the Marriott website, and both Marriott branded hotels in Buena Park are fully booked. The Residence Inn in La Mirada is about $300. This convention seems to be really good for the OC hotel industry.
