Hotel for 10 days

Him what a great forum. My wife and i along with out 8 year old son are planning our first trip to Disney the last two weeks in October for approx. 10 days. We plan on vising Disney world for approx 7 days and have a few extra days to relax. I am looking for nice hotel to stay in off site. Would like a good hotel with good shuttle service. Was thinking of downtown Disney area. I am abit overwhelmed with all the reviews of these hotels on all the sites. Many negative but many positive with the same hotel. Was looking for around $100.00 per night average. Want a place where we can walk from our hotel to get something to eat/ rather than eat in hotel. Remember we are planning for a 10 day stay.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, also any tips on where to book too. Thanks for anybody that can help.

If you are just now exploring the different WDW forums sites you may be interested in looking at www.mousesavers.com She has one or two downtown disney hotels that offer 89.00 and 99.00 specials through her website. Check the site out it has a ton of great WDW information.

I have to second this. I would NEVER stay offsite without a car.

I just looked up the WDW value resorts for the dates OCT 23-31 and got a room only rate of $105 a night. There was availability at Pop Century as well as all of the All Star Hotels.

With that you get Disney Magical Express transpotation to and from the airport and Disney transportation to and from the parks, resorts and DTD on a much more frequent basisi then an offsite hotel's shuttle service. (READ WDW BUSES EVERY 10 TO 15 MINUTES ALL DAY VS. OFFSITE SHUTTLES EVERY 1-2 HOURS IN THE MORNING AND NIGHT WITH NO SHUTTLES MID-DAY)

I would book an on-site room now, and then watch these boards for discounts that may come out toward the end of June, begining of July. If a discount is available for your dates, Disney will usually let you apply it. This may give you a cheaper rate, or allow you to sty at a moderate hotel for the same money. I must warn you, that most general public discounts that come out are for packafes that include tickets and sometimes dining. However room only discounts are not unheard of.
