Hotel express passes good on check-out day?

Anyone know if it's possible to use on-site hotel room key cards as express passes on the day you check out of the hotel (meaning even after checkout)? We'll be at Universal for the 1st time (myself, DW, DD age 14 and DD age 10) during Presidents Week (peak season) in Feb. after visiting family, and I'm hoping to save serious $ by staying on-site two nights--mostly for the express pass and early entry to IOA for HP--and hitting the parks the following two days, then staying at a cheaper place after the park the final night (we'll be flying home the next morning). Can we keep the room key cards (as WDW allows) and use them to get on express lines even after we've checked out? (Seems we ought to be allowed to after staying two nights and paying for two days of park tix--and parks apparently close at 6 pm in Feb.!--but I don't want to assume.) Thanks.
