Ok, I know everyone is nice here, but I hope I don't get flamed for this one. I've done this every time I've stayed on site so I thought I'd ask in advance and hope my good deeds get rewarded :) Here is the story. I was wondering if anyone would be leaving from orlando next Friday, April 14. I am a teacher, and I am headed up there with my school. I don't have the money to stay overnight like I normally do. So i'm wondering if there are any kind souls leaving the parks that day that would donate their hotel key? Every time I stay in the hotels we drive through the parking lot before we leave and give away our hotel keys to people so they have a better day :) I was just wondering if someone that is departing would be willing to donate theirs to a couple of teachers! :) Thanks

Although its a very nice gesture all your info is coded into your hotel key card. I wouldnt want my CC, name, address and whatever else could possibly come up getting into the wrong hands. Not implying YOU just a general statement. You could consider buying an express plus pass if all else fails.

Has anyone here done this before?

When the card is scanned, doesn't your information come up? I wouldn't want the Universal Hotels to stop the perk of express pass with hotel stays, or start asking for ID everytime I show my hotel key, so I wouldn't abuse the system. It also makes the express lines longer for those who are legitimately using their keys.

From one teacher to another- you don't want to be giving away your hotel keys to strangers. They can charge food and merchandise on them and too much private information is encoded on them.

Actually, when you check out of your room the card gets deactivated for charging and stuff like that. I've been to the parks on check out day, after we've checked out, and you can no longer charge anything. Also, the only thing the person would know who is using the card is your name. That' doesn't bother me at all. I do it when I go as a kind gesture. I usually try and find someone like a single mother with teenage kids or someone like that. I've done it probably 30 times and never had a problem.

This behavior is wrong and frankly, I'm surprised at you being an educator and practicing such dishonest behavior. What are you teaching your students about honesty? When someone uses your hotel key, and pretends to be you, falsely, that isn't a "good deed". That is a lie. Please stop this behavior, as it is unfair to those of us who pay our hard earned money to get a legitimate hotel key.

I would say you are brave for asking about this, and taking the flames.

Well, if you are going with the school, you'll be watching the kids, and there is no way they'll have express passes. Your school picked a bad week to visit, it's spring break. Your best bet will be to use single rider lines on Hulk, Spiderman, and Dr. Doom.

whatever jalex said, me too.......

fraud is fraud no matter how you phrase it.

sorry, but teachers should set a higher example than cheating the system.
i am a teacher also and feel our talk should be our walk

Well I'm not going to cuss you all out as that is my first intention. First and foremost, I said that I gave mine away. It is something I paid for and is something that Universal and the hotels offer to their guests, EVEN ON THE DAY OF CHECKOUT. It is not fraud because it has already been planned that I will be using my cards in the park that day. They were paid for just like a booklet of express passes. Don't tell me about walking the walk. I don't need that from anyone. I am a very excellent teacher. This is something that i just put out there to see if anyone was interested. It is in no way fraud. Get off your high horses. It's something nice to give to people and see their entire face change because of the fun day you just gave them.

PS. It's Middle School so we don't walk around with the kids, so I will be out on my own with some fellow teacher friends.

so you are an excellent teacher and the first thing that comes to your mind is to cuss us all out..........

your words, not mine.

Unless you have a clone, then someone who is using a card with your name on it and said person is not you, definitely constitutes fraud in the truest since of the word. So dress it up however you like. It's still not right. If you want to see their faces light up buy them their own express pass. I'll just leave it at that, because this could go on and on. Anyway, to answer your request, no I will not help you with your dishonesty.

So it's fraud, who cares. I am there to make people happy and that's what i've done in the past. What I will say is this, and then leave you all alone. You may call it fraud, but how many of you teachers out there have ever violated copyright? If you say you haven't, then I call you a liar. Maybe 2% of the teaching poplulation has never violated copyright. Why? Because we can't afford it. I try my best to do what I can for my students, even spending over 1500 on my classroom supplies. Not for me, but for my students. When you get down to it, $35,000 is not very much for someone with a four year college degree. Not to mention all the stuff I have to buy for work. But I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it for the kids. I was just asking for a kind gesture from fellow theme park friends. Obviously you all turn it into something it is not. This is the first time I haven't been able to acutally stay the night before the trip because funds are tight.

This is from someone who asked not to be flamed?? Posters nicely expressed their opinion and your intention is to "cuss" them out because you don't like hearing the truth? Re read the post I just quoted you ...."It is something I paid for and something Universal and the hotels offer to their guests." That is half correct--it is not Universal and the hotels, it is on site hotel guests only. It is something "you" paid for and is for on site hotel guests, it is not for you to give away once you are done - regardless of the time of check out. It is not transferrable, Your name is on it, not your name and "random guest when I am done". Would you like it if one of your students gave out the answers to your tests the day of the quiz?? Well what you are doing is just as dishonest, it does not matter that YOU paid for it...it is only for YOU! Just because you think it is a good deed, does not mean it actually is. What makes you think giving away a FOTL card when you are done with it is a good deed? The person you are giving it to did not pay for that priviledge. If you really want to do a good deed, why not buy books of express passes and hand them out.

Being a teacher has nothing to do with it. What about the people that make less than you and scrimp and save to take their family to an on-site hotel at USO for the FOTL? Are you better than them? Get off your high horse and stop thinking "karma" will reward you. What you do for your students has nothing to do with giving and getting a FOTL hotel key that does not bear your name.

The person you give your card to is NOT a hotel guest.

Just found an old room key. If you turn it over and read the back it states:

"Nontransferable; must be used by the same person on any and all days."

The lesson taught is that it is OK to pretend you are someone you are not if there are rewards?

Yeah, like it is ok to receive a term paper or book report because it is still good and the original owner no longer needs it. The original author is only trying to do a good deed and brighten someone else's day! :rolleyes2 I somehow don't think that would fly with a teacher. :teeth:
