Hotel convenient to MCO and Citrus Bowl

My DH and DS (9) are going to an event at the Citrus Bowl and may visit Universal, they will probably rent a car- not sure yet. Anyway, I need to know about hotels in the area and what you guys would recommend. Safe and Clean are important since I won't be there...not that I don't trust DH

The Citrus Bowl is in THE WORST part of Orlando. If you are renting a car and thinking about hitting Universal, just stay near there. There are some hotels downtown that are fine, but none of them are walking distance to the Citrus Bowl, plus they'd have to pay for parking at the hotel and at the Citrus Bowl.

I'm assuming they are going to the WWE event?

Truer words were never spoken!!!!!!!!! I have a friend who rents out a house in that area........I quess it was not that bad of a area in the 60's when they bought it ....But Wow what a difference 40 yrs can make!Take the word of ducklite on this one he lives in the region and he know's!

Actually I'm a "she."

I have to go downtown to the Citrus Bowl/Tinker Field/Thunder Field and the arena for work every other month or so, always leaving after 11:00 pm. Thank God I get a city parking pass that allows me to park in the reserved city employee lots right at the arena and the Citrus Bowl. Even then I'm not really comfortable when I'm leaving.

I'm headed to Orlando for the whole week prior to WM for my first Central Florida vacation that is not solely WDW. Should be a great time. Staying at HRP at USO and doing 3 days there. Going to a Braves ST game, going to the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, and perhaps a TNA show at Universal if they are filming when we are there.

I'm also going to Wrestlemania and we are just staying at the Hard Rock in Universal and then moving on to Disney.

I was looking at hotels in the area and read many reports on how bad the area around the Citrus Bowl was, so I'm sticking to what I know, eventhough the cost of HRH is ridiculously high during this time . But it will be so worth it for the FOTL access since I'm sure Wrestlemania will add additional crowds to the spring break crowds.

P.S. I just wanted to add that I'm taking my son to Wrestlemania, I'm really not interested in the half naked muscle men like my DH suggested .

Yep, they are headed down to Wrestlemania too! It's a surprise for DS. They went to the one in Chicago a few years ago and he had so much fun. I think he and DH feel adventurous traveling without the rest of us, plus they get to fly. I don't fly- though I hope I'll get over that someday.

That's for sure. Was stuck behind an accident on 408 on the way to UCF last month and ducked off near there to get some gas. To make a long story short will never do it again. Told DD never to wander off there to get gas or anything on her way to school.

Just a quick question to anyone who may know. How long is Wrestlemania?

I called and asked Ticketmaster and they told me 1 1/2 hours, but I'm almost 100% postive it would be a lot longer than that

I am say Wrestlemania is should be 3 to 4 hours long give take a hour.

Thank you! Since my DD isn't going, I'm trying to make child care arrangements. The Kids Clubs at the hotel is only open until midnight so I'm trying to figure out if we would make it make in time.

If it runs 5 hours, that's cutting it pretty close .
