We have narrowed down our 2 night hotel stay in San Diego to Hyatt Mission Bay or Hotel Del Coronado. We are a family with 2 teenage boys (age 13 & 15). Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels and which would you recommend?

I've not stayed at either location but I've lived in San Diego almost all of my life and with either location, you'd be by the water. Of course, The Del is world famous and when the POTUS visits San Diego, they stay there. It's also haunted, some say. The Del has access to a very nice beach area with lots of sand area to play in. Plus, you'll be in walking distance to the main strip in Coronado.

I guess it really depends on what you're looking for. I might recommend you go to Google maps and check out the surrounding area with the street view to see what you like.

If staying at Del, make sure you choose the newer towers and not the original structure - the old building is old and rooms are small. Del can feel "stuffy" at times.

Teenagers would prefer Mission Bay - more central to Zoo and Seaworld and more kids their age I imagine out and about. If they're independent they could explore Mission Beach and the Boardwalk on their own.

We have stayed at the Del and loved it . There are restaurants within walking distance and I believe you can get surf lessons (for a fee of course) . Plus it is right on the beach.
