Hotel Cheyenne or a 3 key hotel?

We have booked to go away for a week to stop at the hotel Cheyenne. We liked the look of the theme and it was in our budget. After reading more review I am a little worried about the quality of the hotel and am wondering if it is worth upgrading (if we can afford to push the budget) to stay at the Newport Bay Club or Sequoia Lodge.

I have no idea if the buffet is different in the 2 and 3 key hotels but as a vegetarian family there is a good chance neither would be particularly good anyway. Also we don't care about a pool or a little extra walk. But I am worried now that it might not be as clean and comfortable. Anyone have any thoughts about it?

There's nothing 'wrong' with the budget hotels. They are not bad quality rooms- just smaller than those at the 3 key hotels. For me, it would depend how much the extra is to pay for a better hotel. The breakfast is the same, just a bit more chaotic at SF/Cheyenne as you are not seated to a table as you are in SL/Newport. I have heard that the evening buffets in the lower end hotels are better than the more expensive ones!

Having checked the price difference for our weeks stay it works out as £394 more for a 3 key so still trying to decide what the best option is. Works out to be ~£57 a night different

£57 a night isn't a bad price, however nearly £400 sounds a lot more! For me it would depend if I'd rather have that money for food/souvenirs...what time of year are you going? In winter id spend more to be nearer to the parks - for the fact that it's cold and you want to get back quicker! But in the summer I think I would be more likely to stay at Santa Fe or Cheyenne. As you said, it just comes down to what the bet option is for you! :thumbsup2

We're going on 15th September (OP is my unlucky Wife lol!)

I'm thinking that I'll see if I can comfortably afford it nearer the time but if not at least we know we're going anyway as it's all paid for already.

I love the Cheyenne and would love to stay there again. It is a bit more basic that the three key hotels but we've always found the rooms to be clean and the theming is great.

Also, you don't have to eat in your hotel buffet - you can book tables at any of the hotel and park restaurants, regardless of where you are staying.

I think in my mind it is wether on reflection I would feel that the £400 (near enough) Was worth it for an upgrade. We wouldn't upgrade to Newport Bay because the pool is closed when we go Not that I think we would use it much but its nice to have an option.

Ah, I see I was a bit confused when I thought i'd replied to a different person about the same topic :lmao:
I went at the same time as you in September of 2012 and it was very warm. We were grateful of the SL swimming pool in the afternoon when the parks were busiest.
It's always a tricky decision - the cost for me has always been split with my sister so it tends to be a bargain for us (hence why we can afford a trip to the DLH :rotfl:
Good luck with your decision, i'm sure you'll have a brilliant time regardless of where you sleep :wizard:

I'm thinking If we can afford it nearer the time I'll try for the Sequoia Lodge. Is there a time limit on upgrading accomodation? I assume I can just call them up and they'll sort it on the phone :confused3

I've never had a bad experience staying at the Cheyenne and we are booked to stay there again in October for the Halloween season.

I would avoid the Newport Bay Club at the moment as it is under refurbishment, go for the Sequoia Lodge.

If you are going to up grade, do it sooner than later as the price goes up the nearer you are to the departure date. Leaving it to late could work out quite expensive. To up grade just give them a call and ask for the price. If you have booked via a Travel Agent you will have to speak to them.

No limit but if you booked under a deal and the deal has ended the upgrade may cost more

I think we came under the 20% off and free Half Board so I'm guessing that £400 would be more like £500+ then at the time!

Have noticed that the offer I mentioned is for Arrivals up to mid Nov. So Providing i do it in a month or so I should be OK
