Hotel before Miami Cruse with Kids

We will be sailing out of Miami on the 3 night Magic New Years Eve cruise. We are flying into Miami two nights ahead of time to extend our vacation, with our boys age 8 and 12. Do you have any recommendations on where to stay in Miami? Ideally I'd like it to be near the beach, and have a pool, but not totally break the bank. Not sure if that exists!

Are there any other activities that interest your boys besides the pool and the beach? As always, anything can happen with weather; however, it's not uncommon for it to be cold (in the 40s) in Miami on New Years Eve. There aren't very many (if any) indoor pools in Miami.

We were there last year for the New Year's Eve cruise with a 4 and 6 year old. We were lucky to get perfect weather, maybe even a bit too hot. We used our Hilton points to stay at the Doubletree Grand Biscayne Bay. It's right on the waterfront and has a bit of a retro, art nouveau vibe to it. The kids loved the rooftop pool and hot tub complex, especially at night when the lights of Miami Beach were on the horizon across the bay. We also saw the ship from our balcony on the morning we left. It's not really close to a beach though. I'm not sure if we'd pay rack rates, but if you have points or find a deal it's a fun place to stay.
