Hi!
We are super excited to be returning to Disneyland after a long awaited 3 years due to covid.
We were last there in 2018 and will be making the long trip from Australia (now that we can finally travel) in late September early October.
We have traditionally stayed at Desert Inn and Suites the past three visits but are looking for something different.
We would like somewhere close (no more than a 20 min walk), a pool, breakie included would be good (but not necessary) and safe and clean. We are a family of 4 (kids will be 7 and 10).
We will be staying for 10 nights so budget friendly would be good, also remembering it will cost us more once we convert from USD to AUD. I've been looking at Hampton Inn (near the toy story lot), the Calrion and Sheraton Park Hotel.
Can you help out and give us some advice on your go to places.

What is a breakie?

We like the Park Vue Inn. Clean, good bunk bed and other options for families, and extremely close walking distance. I find the price fluctuates quite a bit though. Sometimes it's quite expensive but other times it's a great value.

Lol breakfast!
Thanks for the recommendation, do you know roughly nightly rates? I'm finding to keep it budget friendly I need something under $200USD (the conversion rate is the problem at the moment)

Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn and Best Western Park Place inn are right across the street and have breakfast. (At least I think they are back to that after covid)

I do recommend the Hampton Inn and also Homewood Suites as they both offer breakfast or at least they did pre-covid. There are a couple of them a bit further of a walk in Garden Grove, too. My daughter and I have walked it, but it feels really long after 10pm. If you stay at the one next to the Toy Story parking lot, you can use the Disney buses. In some cases, waiting for the bus at the end of the day takes as long as walking back.

I think the options you've already looked at (minus Clarion - it doesn't get good reviews here), are good. Getting anything under 200 for Halloween time is going to be tough. I booked Best Western Park Place at $187 for October, but I made the reservation back in January, and rates have steadily been climbing ever since. I think I'd choose Hampton because Hilton properties have rarely disappointed me.

I would say the Candy Cane Inn, but it looks like they may have suspended reservations again because their renovation is taking longer than expected -- every room types shows as "unavailable" for a variety of different days in September/October.

Desert Palms would also be a decent option that's a little closer than the others you've listed and it's under $200/night (before taxes) and includes hot breakfast.

But I think the Hampton Inn is nicer than either of those and it looks like they have some pretty good rates for September/October, including on the king/bunk room set up. Between the proximity to the Toy Story lot and the ability to Uber/Lyft (this depends on your comfort level -- technically your 7 year old requires a booster seat in California (could be a Bubble Bum or Mifold or other small booster) -- but I don't think this is something the ride share drivers look too closely at, since you are the parent are the responsible party for ensuring they are properly restrained), maybe the distance doesn't matter as much.

Thanks for your help. I liked the look of the Hampton inn. I looked last night and it seems I can get it for around $2300AUD through a travel agent over here, which seems to be be cheaper than the options I was getting for other places.
The distance after a long day worried me though so it is nice to know there is a bus option. This will be our first year without a pram for our daughter, so it will be a little more difficult for her little legs.

Thanks for the tip about the clarion.
It seems so far that the Hampton is giving me best results budget wise, so sounds like a safe option.

Thank you. I did look at the candy cane inn but like you said nothing is available.
I'd like to book the hotel through an Australian website party as I know my direct cost up front in Australian dollars and the candy cane inn isn't on any of the websites I'm looking at yet.
Thanks for the heads up on the car seat. She still has to been in one over here too. I was hoping not to bring ours as it is so big and bulky. We are not allowed the backless ones over here so I guess we will also need to book a booster seat for our car hire.

Have you looked into Best Western Stovall's Inn on Katella? It's a short walk (about 8 minutes to Downtown Disney, and then through Downtown Disney to get to the esplanade.

I usually pay around $130-150 USD per night. It's pretty comparable to Desert Inn and Suites, just a bit longer walk.

Hot breakfast in the mornings. I've had biscuits and gravy, build-your-own-breakfast sandwiches, and French toast sticks; I feel like I'm forgetting something I've had there for breakfast, but not sure what. Maybe pancakes?

The pool area is nice. I won't use it after dark, but I travel as a solo, small/short female. 2 pools, 2 hot tubs.

There's anther thread going about it that was just started in the last day or two.

Thank you so much! I haven't looked here yet. Will see if I can get the price in AUD for the 10 nights.
Does breakfast also have cereal and toast? My two kids probably wouldn't eat the hot stuff (they are pretty plain with breakfast lol).

I do not like the Sheraton Park Hotel. You won't get free breakfast and it's very old. The Hampton Inn is good and the breakfast there is above average for the area. The Element may be in your budget and has one of the nicest free breakfasts. I often recommend the Hyatt House which has more space but its breakfast is not as good as the Hampton Inn or Element's.

First of all, my family and I had a laugh yesterday saying "What's a breakie?" to each other all day. My husband is Australian, so I didn't think twice when I read "breakie" but I understand how not all Americans would know that Aussie term!

Secondly, I would consider The Element or The Residence Inn by Marriott depending on what rate you can get. I think you can get The Element for around US$200/night. Both hotels have breakfast included. And all of the hotel rooms have full kitchens. This can be very convenient and money saving for a 10-night stay. You could get a grocery delivery and have some dinners in the room. We stayed at The Residence Inn last July and really enjoyed having a full kitchen. We bought a lot of fresh fruit, drinks, yogurts, cereal, milk, coffee, bread, cheese and things like frozen mac 'n' cheese, bagged salads, pre-made sushi, fresh burritos, etc. for a few dinners. It was nice to have the extra space, a table to eat at, etc. I believe the walk from either hotel is less than 15 minutes. And both are clean, quiet and new.

Good luck to you!

Yes, lots of cold stuff too-- cereals and breads (bread, pastries and bagels I believe). Also oatmeal if I'm remembering correctly.

Haha yes I forgot it wasn't a term used everywhere! Thank you for all your tips. We ended up going with Hampton inn, hopefully it is the right choice 😬

Thank you so much to everyone for all of your help! We ended up going with the Hampton inn and got it for under $3000 AUD for the 10 nights so pretty happy with that!
We are so excited to be coming back! We are booking tickets for the park next but holding out a few weeks to see if they bring back then 10 day hoppers for Australians (however I don't see that happening in our timeline).
Thank you all again!
