Hotel advice staying outside the park

We will be in Orlando in October for a week at Disney, but we are going to spend a couple of days after that at Universal. I would love to stay at a Universal hotel, but no way can I bring myself to pay over $200 a night so can anyone recommend a good place to stay close to Universal.

I have stayed at the seralago hotel and I really liked it.. clean nice swiiming pool and close to everything.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites nearest Universal Orlando. It supposed to be a newer hotel and 1/2 mile away from Universal. Free breakfast buffet and free shuttle to the parks. One night is only costing us $68.00. I'll tell you about our experience when we return.

Hyatt Place looks really nice and it is within walking distance.

Remember that there are lots of benefits to staying onsite other than just being close and that there are some really good passholder rates available.

Just back from our mini trip. We did end up staying one night at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites nearest Universal Orlando. It was a nice, newer hotel and it did end up being only about a 1/2 mile away from Universal.

The hotel is nice, but the pool is pretty small. They had quite a few tables for their little buffet in the AM which consisted of eggs, biscuits, gravy, muffins, danish, warm cinnamon rolls, bagels, yogurt, cold cereal. Coffee, tea, oj, and apple juice. Of course it was nothing to write home about, but it was free and convenient.

The room was it little on the small side, and provided just the basics. No bathtubs just a huge walk in shower. The bathroom also had one of those pocket doors instead of a real bathroom door, which I thought was strange, but I guess its to save room. All in all, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay I would say its a good choice. Just make sure you drive down the road to make sure you are staying at the Express Suites, not the older Holiday Inn directly across from the park, that one looks rundown from the outside.

Thanks for the followup I was curious. We are going for nine nights and I want to stay at HRH for the FOTL access. But we have our family of four and my DDBF and there is NO WAY I am staying in a room with him Don't get me wrong he is a very nice person, but I don't want just anyone to see me in my pj's. And, quite honestly, I just spent 11 nights in one room at the CBR with my own family of four and by the end of the trip I needed ALONE time.

So anyway, I just can't bring myself to pay almost $3000 for the nine nights at HRH. So I was thinking of staying for two nights...getting three days of FOTL and then doing the other 7 nights in another hotel or condo type.

We will rent a car and plan on going to Seaworld, Aquatica, Wet and Wild, Busch Gardens, and one day to DHS.

Any other suggestions for good offsite hotels?
