I am heading to Paris next June with my husband and two kids I was planning on using DVC points to take one hotel cost out of the trip but ALAS - they only had availability at Newport Bay and for 2 nights it would be 90 points and $95 - on weekdays. Since I really only wanted one night with park days before/after - I'm now looking to pay cash for one night. Disneyland Hotel is out. Sequoia Lodge doesn't appear to have availability. So now I'm down to HNY and Newport Bay. Leaning towards Newport Bay as I've read it has gone through a refurb. Let me know if anyone would choose HNY over Newport Bay and why? I know HNY is closer, but that doesn't bother me.

Next question - compass club? I see it includes breakfast and snacks/tea later in the day? Possibly a VIP FASTPASS? Can anyone provide more details on this. It is $200 more for just that one night which seems high for breakfast for 4 and a FP. I am guessing we will be trying to get the most of the parks and won't be back for mid-day breaks. Also - How crowded are the restaurants in the parks? Does the Compass Club breakfast help with time and not just cost?

Thanks for any advice. Less than 6 months and this is the last hotel in our 2 week vacation I need to make!!

Hi! I think by then HNY will be under refurb, and the difference in distance is about 5 minutes walk. We stayed in NPB over Halloween in Compass club. Compass Club is not like Club level in the states. It does include breakfast and Gouter, which is like a high tea that they serve around 5ish. VIP Fastpass I think is suites only, and Castle Club in DLH. You do get a single Hotel Fastpass for every night of your stay. They aren't valid between 1 and 4. Compass club helps with time in that there isn't really a hold up for breakfast, and you can then just hit the park. Restaurants are crowded, but the reservations are more readily available than the 6 month ADR madness we get in WDW. You can go back as the walk is only about 15 mins, we did this a few times this year. We really enjoyed NPB, and are going back to it over the DLH. The FP will help you on a ride you particularly want to hit, as you can only have one FP on your disney card at any one time, rather than the 3 on magic bands in Florida.

Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

The plan was and I don't think its changed is that the HNY will be closed when they are refurbing it, and next year they will still be working on Cheyenne or not long finished as they switched them round. originally the HNY was going to be done before Cheyenne.

Thanks, Londontime. I may book the compass club as it will take care of breakfast and possibly a nice mid-day break, too.

We're staying in the Compass Club first week of January. You have the rooms in the center of the hotel (it's a MASSIVE hotel so that is a real plus). You also have a separate lounge for breakfast, and snacks and soft drinks in the afternoon. Plus a hotel fastpass (not VIP), meaning 1 fastpass per person per day. In the suites you get the VIP fastpass.

As you said it's just been refurbished and it looks like they did a beautiful job, really looking forward to our stay there.

The Hotel New York will be refurbished in 2018, and it will be closed completely while they work on it. We used to be Hotel New York people, have stayed there multiple times and love it, but I've heard a few negative reviews lately (mostly because it's a bit out of date)

Between the two, I would definitely go for Newport, and if you can for the Compass Club :)
