Thinking of planning a trip to Universal, but need some help. Would be traveling with a 5 or 6 yr old son, depending on when we go. So, which hotel would be most accomodating (fun) for him. Like, if you wanted to spend a day at the hotel to swim, play etc...
is there a kids club during the day? I see each hotel has an evening one...

which hotel is the cleanest? nice rooms? what sort of tv channels?

which has the best breakfast options? I see you can go to any hotel to eat dinner, so doesn't matter where you stay.

how does universal stack up against Disney as far as dining? We usually eat a quicker breakfast there, a sandwhich/salad type lunch and then have a nice dinner either at resorts or parks most nights. Are there seafood restaurants and filet minon type places? we don;t do alot of burger/pizza type suppers.

thanks for any info...

Well, there are 3 hotels; Royal Pacific Resort(RPR), Hard Rock Hotel(HRH), and Portofino Bay Hotel(PBH)

We have stayed at HRH and RPR. They both have nice pools for kids as young as what you have. HRH has a slide, and RPR has a boat with waterguns on it. really it depends on what your son likes the most between those. Never stayed at PBH so can't really help you there.

I don't know about a kids club during the day:confused3 .

Going by what I have done at the hotels, I would say that RPR is the cleanest, and has the nicest rooms.

The TV channels are pretty much the same as all teh other hotels, they have nick, cartoon network, ESPN, TBS, TNT, ABC, NBC, etc. Our favorite channel that we always watch though is the Universal Channel. It tells you about all the different rides, restaurants, and stores in the theme parks.

What you should try to do is stay on the club level at the hotels. Our favorite is the RPR club. They have a great breakfast. They bon't have a lunch , but they do have like a snack period. where they have carrots, strawberries, grapes, and other fruits, and snacks.

US/IOA/CityWalk all have good restaurants. I think they are better than disneys personally. As far as Seafood, I would go to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Citywalk. Maybe even Margaritaville can't really remember.

Hope this helps

we just got back from PB last week and my eight year old son LOVED it. We spent more time at the resort than the parks.. he loved the beach pool with the slide and the waterfall- he liked the kiddie pool too. We ate luch every day at Splindido Pizza by the pool - the food was great! We ate the breakfast buffet at the resort every day- it was the best one we have ever eaten at. ( Over the years we have eaten at every resturant on disney property) The food at Universal and the resorts blows disney away. The gelatto was great- especially the raspberry! We walked and explored the grounds for hours- I loved everything about this resort!
The room we had was spotless- one of the cleanest ones we have ever had.
