My wife and I are thinking of visiting Las Vegas for the first time in the fall. We are looking for an inexpensive, clean hotel that is located on the Strip. Does anyone have any feedback? We are thinking of a 5 day/4 night trip. Also, would trying to fit a day trip to the Grand Canyon would be too much with trying to see as much as possible in Vegas? Thanks for any advice anyone may give.

A lot depends upon what you mean by "inexpensive" and whether you will be there on the weekend. Weeknights are much cheaper - some pretty nice places can be inexpensive.

Also, keep in mind that room prices in Vegas follow their own weird logic - fluctuating wildly up and down and with specials often becoming available as you get closer to your trip. You best bet it to book a fully refundable reservation with a hotel now, then keep your eye out for specials. Be sure to sign up for email specials at the places you want to stay's websites - or check out sites like www.vegashotelspecial.com that tracks them for you.

A good place to start reading is www.cheapovegas.com

The cheapest places in good locations on the strip are usually the Excalibur and IP. Up a step in price and features are places like TI/Bally's/Bill's/Flamingo/Luxor. But each of those places may be expensive or cheap depending upon what kind of deal you get.

Cheap Strip Hotels

Stratosphere, Sahara, Riviera, Excalibur, Circus Circus, Imperial Palace

Check out Flamingo, Harrah's & Bally's. Go to hotel websites and register for e-mail promotions.

Definitely register on the hotel's websites - they will email you all sorts of promotions. Book something now because you can always change it later if you get a better offer.

We went two years in a row the second week of Sept. We went Sun - Thur. We stayed at the Venetian for $75/ night with promotion. We stayed at Bellagio for $149/ night. So don't rule any of the fancy ones out solely because you think they wil be too expensive. Week days at that time seems to have good rates.

Also, if you want to dine at any of the "Upscale" restaurants, you need to book that a few months in advance. If you can swing one dinner while there, I would highly recommend it. We spent about $175 for 2 of us for dinner at Delmonico's. That is a couple of cocktails, no wine. But it was definitely the best meal I have ever had. :thumbsup2

Enjoy!

Thanks for those websites. That is exactly what I had been looking for a couple weeks ago. Very helpful! :woohoo:

We stayed at Treasure Island last week. Nice place, clean and safe. 4 star on the strip and we had a strip view. Very basic hotel room, but that's all we needed. We'd stay there again.
