We purchased a hot tub over the weekend and it's being delivered tomorrow. Do any of you hot tub owners have advice for us. It's a Nordic brand (the square, not the round) and seats 8 adults. It's going on our very private back patio and I'm thrilled to pieces. My doctor has been suggesting this for awhile and we finally broke down. Thanks in advance.

Ditto what Eros said, Lisa. I wish I knew about hot tubs. Your's sounds wonderful. Enjoy it!

Thanks you guys! You put a nice big smile on my face this morning.

Good to hear you bought this, Lisa. Hoping it will bring you all many hours of comfort and relief. Sounds great.

Hoping all is going well for you, my best wishes for a Merry Christmas for you, Lisa, along with Emily and Ellyn. :sunny:

My best advice.... use it regularly!

Be sure to be careful getting in.... we have had some people slip!

Lisa, My dh helps me hobble in and out of our hottub, I can not do it alone. We found out some of the following by trial and error.
Remember that when you are in the hottub the water will help support you.
1. Put non-slip strips on the steps.
2. Put a chair near the steps.
3. Practice getting in and out of the hot tub BEFORE it is filled with water. It is a bit easier to manuever when filled.
4. Start with water temp at about 100, you can always heat it up hotter next time. Try not to stay too long the first time as your muscles will relax and you might feel too weak to get out of the tub. We used to give PT patients whirlpools 20 minutes MAX. I admit to staying longer in our hottub now, but I turn the jets off and on during the 40 min to an hour. You will learn how hot and how long will be best for you.
5. Be ready for a nice nap after your hottub time.. mmm you will feel good.
6. If needed.. Consider putting a handle on the entrance of the hottub it may help you feel steadier when getting in and out.
7 Purchase a big, fluffy cotton robe for yourself and your dh... feels great!
8. Totally agree with Eros's #2 and 3.. #1 is up to you all;)

Sorry this is long. Have a grand time!!!

I have to admit the Hot tub we have is one of the best things we have ever bought.

One thing about the chemicals. We have found the only thing we need is some good cholorine pelets. Some defoamer, and some scent you put in the water.

Nothing like a 30 degree night and 104 degree water. It is really cool to be in it while it is snowing too. We also like to eat ice cream while we are in the hot tub.

Hope you enjoy yours let us know how you like it!

I have to agree with mhopset, our best purchase recently was our hot tub. We also use chlorine. We tried bromine, first, but I hated the smell, even with the scented liquid that you can buy, and we had to shock it all the time. With the chlorine, we just add it and check the chemicals.

Some of the best advice that we received about ours is to have a hot tub bathing suit that you never wash. The washing machine never gets out all of the soap and that causes the foam in the tub. Since we switched to this, we've only had to use defoamer when we've had friends over who had on freshly laundered suits.

You'll also have to buy a rubber ducky so it floats in the tub while you soak.

Ok, now you guys have really got me psyched up. They will be delivering our's in just a few hours. The electrician was out this morning and it will be Friday before it's all hooked up, but we can hardly wait!!

Lisa

Well, congratulations! We love ours, but do not get enough use out of it, with a little one running around! ;)

There are some good suggestions here... Eros, you are right... we always say swim suits are optional in our tub. And we live in Wiscosin! ;)

Do start at a lower temp, then work your way up.

Do get a nice new, thick robe and get yourself some non-skid slippers/flip flops. Sometimes your wet foot will slip "inside" of the shoe and you can easily twist your ankle.

Do get a cover-taker-offer-helper thingy. (I don't know what the heck this is called, but it's a bar to help you take your cover off with ease.)

We don't use chlorine we use some other system that is soooo easy but the name escapes me now. DH takes care of that, so I'm not too familiar with it. He just dumps some poweder in every once in a while and it's all set.

Get yourself some nice scented oils to put in every once in the while. Target sells them. We don't use them alot, but it is nice.

If you do enjoy a beverage, use plastic cups. No glass allowed! We have plastic wine glasses even!

USE IT!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Let us know what you think! You will love it!
