Hot Dogs

I really never knew until today that you have to cook hot dogs. I made a package of hot dogs to eat for dinner and for some reason I read the package. It actually has a minimum amount of time to cook. We as a family have eaten hot dogs right out of the package all of the time. I used to give them to my son when he was a toddler out of the package also. Me and my brothers used to eat them out of the package without cooking them. I am in a complete shock. I never knew. Anybody else not know that like me?

I also used to always eat them cold. I don't think you have to cook them, though, I think that might just be a recommendation.

you don't have to cook them they are basically a bunch of different luncheon meats with lots of preservatives. I also eat them out of the pack.....ignore the second head coming out of my shoulders...it knows not of what it speaks

I guess there can be a high level of a bacteria called "lysteria" that can be found in raw hot dogs, thats why they recommend cooking them. Gosh, my sister and I ate them cold all the time growing up and we are fine.

Yep it is the Listeria factor. However you are supposed to boil them not microwave to kill it.

Many hot dogs don't have to be cooked. Look at some other packages in the grocery store and you'll see "fully cooked".

I thought they were cooked. I hadn't heard of lysteria before.

My kids eat cold hot dogs all the time. I get Oscar Mayer Turkey Franks with Cheese and the package says "fully cooked". We've never had a problem with them.
