How strict are they with the 9 year old minimum age for the horseback riding at Ft. Wilderness? My son (who is small for his age anyway) will be 1 month shy of his 9th birthday when we go.

I dont know about the horeseback riding, our 3 ds have done it, you can get a helmet and must sign all the forms etc. The horses are almost coma like as another poster said. They just follow in the line, no trotting etc. I do know that our oldest ds was a little too old for the fishing trip and couldnt go with his younger brothers and was upset, That age max is 12. Well when dh took them to the dock, the captain let oldest ds come on. So I guess it depends on the person etc. If you are not staying on site , would they have any actual record of your childs dob.

Thanks. We've found many things work like that @ WDW and most of the time we've been lucky enough to get the good CM's. I feel like they'd let him ride at 8 yrs. 11 months of age, except for the fact that he is on the small side: tends to make him look younger than he is.

I always try to figure out the reason behind an age or height restriction, and with horseback riding I could see where an "immature" child might not be expected to treat the horsey with proper respect: kicking, pulling on reins, etc. Also, guess they have to be big enough to fit in the saddle....
