Has anyone done this?
Did you enjoy it?

Take a leisurely 45 minute guided tour on horseback (no galloping) or an old-fashioned wagon ride through the trails of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

The more info the better.

Thank you!

I haven't done it personally, because I think it's a little expensive for 45 minutes. But, here's the information:

Horseback Riding

This 45-minute to one hour guided trail ride goes through the wooded areas of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

Offered daily at 8:30am, 10:00am, 11:30am, 1:00am and 2:30pm

Check-in is 30 minutes prior to the ride time. If you arrive after the Safety Announcement, you will not be permitted to ride.

Cost is $42.00 including tax. Reservations are required and can be made up to 90 days in advance. Cancellation of rides may occur due to inclement weather.

Minimum age is 9
Minimum height is 48 inches
Maximum weight is 250 pounds.
Helmets are recommended and are provided at no charge.
Nothing can be carried while on horseback. Small storage lockers to hold cameras and backpacks are provided at no charge.
No open-toed shoes, flip-flops or strapless shoes should be worn for riding.
Pick up tickets on the same day at the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Kennel at least 30 minutes prior to start of ride.
Parents need to sign consent forms for children

The horseback ride is ideal for beginners. People that have done it before may be bored because it is VERY slow. The horses are pretty much head to tail at a slow walking pace. My girls have done horseback riding once a year or so since they were little and they were more than ready to be done with the ride at FW by the time we got back to the stable. I wish they offered a ride for older/more experienced riders.

If you've never been on a horse before, or your kids are just moving up from the pony rides, you would probably really like it. :thumbsup2

Thanks,

This will the first time the 3 of have even riden a horse.
DW37, DD12 and Me33.

Is the scenery any good or is it just woods?
Do you get to see a lot of the camp, buildings, beach water etc.?

The trail is wooded. You don't see much of the actual campground or beach area. If you are near the front of the line you can chat with the guide about the campground, but it's hard to hear if you are in the middle/back of the line.

I've never done the wagon ride. I'm not sure what the route is or if you can see more of the campground that way.

For what you are going to pay for horseback riding...you could rent a golf cart for the day (about $50). You can go "looping" as we like to call it. Check out all of the loops and explore the campground. You could have dinner at Trail's End and then go over the the campfire program (free) where they have a sing-along, campfires where you can make s'mores, and there is a Disney movie afterwards. If you aren't interested in the movie you could go down to the beach and watch the fireworks from MK and see the Electric Water Pagent.

Not trying to knock the horseback riding. Just offering another option if you want to really check out the campground ;)

The wife and I have gone horseback riding the last 3 times we went. It was the only time we have rode horses so it was fun for us. I wanted to go faster but it was ok. We would do it again. :thumbsup2

We go at the end of the year so I am not sure if it would be too hot. I would think that, in the woods, the shade would make comfortable.

I think Shannons right when you weigh this out penny for penny....you get the golf cart for a full day(almost) or get the horse for 45 minutes. Fit up to 6 people on the cart, one person on a horse.

1 big advantage of a cart is the ablity to carry a cooler with you. :drive: :drinking1

We went in the summer, but early in the morning and it wasn't too bad. It is one of those things were you say, ok, I did that. It is not one of those things were you say, let's go back again and again and again. The ride was slow, but very relaxing. The horses knew where to go, I didn't have to do anything but keep the darned thing from eating the bushes...I had the pokey one...gee, and now I have a pokey DH and DS...sensing a pattern here???:lmao:

My sister and I rode many, many years ago I was 17 (I will be 50 this year) We still laugh hysterically when we talk about the event. We had a great time and it created a lasting wonderful memory

My husband and daughter have gone horseback riding several times. I have always scheduled them for the 9:00 am ride (earliest one, at least last time we went). I felt that anything after that was going to be too hot during our summer visits.
