As part of our trip I want to surprise my girls with a horseback riding. I have read the restrictions and all my girls are at least 9, the questions:

  1. Is it worth the money? At $42 a person for 45 minutes to an an hour of riding time, are the trails and scenery worth the money?
  2. What skill level do the riders need to be?
  3. Are helmets provided by Disney or do we need to bring helmets?
  4. My son will not be old enough, so we will need to take him to the pony rides, how close are the pony rides to the launch point for the horse rides?
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I have three daughters, and it was a rite of passage in our family for them to each go on the trail ride at Fort Wilderness when they were each old enough.

As for your questions:

1. Is it worth it? Like everything at Disney, it is overpriced. I would imagine there is some place close to your home where you could go on a trail ride for a lot less. The scenery and trails are nothing special. You will just be riding through a forest, with your horse's nose right up against the horse's tail in front. The ride is very slow- it's just a slow walk- nothing more. But it's at Disney. It is a safe, fun, but maybe boring activity. You will have to decide whether or not it's worth it.

2. The skill level is zero. If you can sit on the horse, you can ride it. They go very, very slow. If your DD already rides horses, she might find this very boring.

3. Helmets are provided.

4. The pony rides are at the other end of the campground (about one mile from the trail ride area).

I did it for my girls when they we younger. It was just a safe way for them to see what it is like to ride a horse. The horses are very docile. The Trail is mostly a path through the woods, unless it has changed.
  2. What skill level do the riders need to be?

No skill level required, they will get basic instruction before they leave.
  3. Are helmets provided by Disney or do we need to bring helmets?

    They have helmets

The Trail Rides start & end close to the Outpost Bus Stop, which is close to the 'Front Desk' of FW. The pony rides are at the opposite end at the Settlement bus stop, next to Pioneer Hall.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Hope this helps.
