Although you hear many who miss the Adventurers Club, there are others that are looking forward to the Hyperion Wharf to be completely new and fresh. I strongly hope the Adventurers Club does NOT return. It had it's time at Pleasure Island. IT'S OVER!!!! It failed to bring in revenue. Interactive comedy is great and it would be neat to see it come to the new facility, but I hope and feel all the new venues are new and original. Re-opening the Adventurers Club would be like putting last year's Chirstmas gifts under this year's Christmas tree.

OUCH!!

I was never a fan of the Adventurers Club--went in briefly once and walked back out. But there are a lot of folks who loved the place and for them, I wish they WOULD bring it back. My guess is they could find room for it SOMEWHERE on WDW property, if not back at DD.

While I don't fell that it shouldn't come back, unfortunately, I really feel that if it did come back it would be drastically different and wouldn't be the same. I am afraid the old Adventurers Club is gone and will never return, regardless of if it is given a new home or not.

It is like buying a new house, even if you have all the same furniture and stuff inside, it still isn't the same. I don't think the AC could stand alone, it fit into PI and somehow found its niche, not so sure how it would transfer out of PI. I think the fans of AC will ultimately be disappointed and it will most likely flop.....but that is my opinion.

And there lies the problem, getback. If I really believed or could imagine disney doing something "New and Original" I probably would be more happy about hyperion wharf.

But the reality is it's simply more stores. Exactly what is original about more Mickey stuff. I doubt if it will even be original mickey stuff.

They are expanding the AMC theater... last time I looked movies have been around since the 1920's, so once again what's exciting about a 12 plex? Pretty much you can get that at every local mall up and down I-95

Restaurants? big whoo, have you heard the criticism lately on the restaurants disney has now!! If I actually thought they would open some thing original and great tasting, ok maybe, but personally the last new restaurant in DTD was T-Rex. Oh yeah that's original, it's rainforest cafe with some dinosaurs, literally, it's the same menu with prehistoric names.

Sorry to be so critical but my son has 2nd year architecutre students as school that could have come up with more imagination than Disney did on this.

It's a mall with bright search lights. another poster said it best, the only thing missing will be Chuck. E. Cheese and a walmart.

But the same can be said about PI, go across town and Universal has the same thing. Go to any big city and you have night clubs, comedy clubs and shows. The only thing really original about Comedy Warehouse was that it was a very watered down Who's Line Is It Anyway that could turnover numerous shows a night, instead of a regular comedy showing only having two or so shows a night. Even AC (as much as I liked it) was only original in the sense that it was a shortened interactive dinner theatre to turn over several shows an hour.

If you look at any of WDW at the same level that you are looking at DTD, what is so special about any of it. How many theme parks are in the country, with roller coaster, shows, fireworks, parades, etc.

While I am not 100% sold on the new plan, I am also waiting to reserve judgement. They can make it nice or they can make it just another mall. I doubt they are going for a mall, but we will see. Disney prides itself on doing things differently and making things feel special, even if when you look at the basics you can find it anywhere else in the country.

I do miss the days of "special" disney merchandise, finding hidden gems, things not seen in other shops....hopefully, sooner than later, we will see that tide turn back.

But that's my point, sort of. :rotfl: Sure many parks have rollercoasters so disney went beyond that to give us the Yeti!! Sure they have attractions but Disney goes beyond that to give us TSM and Tower of terror. and the cues are to die for. I love going through the hotel at ToT, heck it's almost as fun as the ride itself.
Again I too am hoping it will wow me but tell me what's the wow factor at an AMC?

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping I get down there and say "oooh look at all the pretty stores" .

Nobody's holding City Walk up as anything more than it is.

Further, Disney USED to pride itself on those things you mention. The only pride they feel these days is hitting that quarterly number.

This is a mall, as eliza said, with the same Disney crap that is everywhere. What will people be thrilled about? Lame and mediocre restaurants? The lighting? The building design? The people flow? The landscaping? I just don't get it.

I love the AC and PI in general. AC did bring in revenue, I Bet it even made a profit on that revenue. If they would bring back some sort of nighttime entertainment(I refuse to go to the movies on vacation) I would not be so bent on seeing AC again. But there is nothing to do after 10pm when the parks are closed. I am still waiting to see a Dave and Busters sign replace DisneyQuest. Would that be another original idea if they just fancy it up with extra lights. Everything at Disney is so homogenous right now it is disgusting.

But I think that is the exact point, take tower of terror as a perfect example. Every major theme park in america has a drop ride of some sort. None are really different than any other, some are free falls, some are controlled drops with multiple drops...thats about it. Tower of terror is different because it has a story and a theme that plays from the moment you enter the queue until you exit the ride. The ride is the same old drop ride, it is what happens to get you onto the ride that makes it special.

Same thing with the parks in general, they are special because of the themes, landscaping, attention to detail, etc. There is nothing really new or unique that isn't found in any park, other than the themes and ambience that is created.

So, now we look at the Wharf. If Disney continues with what they have done in the past. The experience is not about the shops and what they sell, or the restaurant and what they serve. It is getting you there, the theme, flow and ambiance they create as you stroll through the waterside wharf. Same as going along the boardwalk, or wandering through the Animal Kingdom Lodge. In the end, they are just hotels with a facade and nice stage presence.

So the next time you go to Tower of Terror you can break the story and just think of it as normal drop ride, or enjoy getting there and "experience" it. What will be special about the Wharf, well, it will be wandering through it with your spouse/significant other, while on vacation, enjoying the themes, entertainment that they put into place for you. Watching a movie, getting a snack and just relaxing, same as anywhere else at Disney.

(the other thing special about another AMC theatre is it will be one of only about eight or so movie theatres that you can have full service dining, so that is pretty unique, at least for now :rolleyes1)

And for the record, this isn't drinking the Disney kool-aid. DTD has lacked a theme in the marketplace and even in PI for a number of years. They are not very Disney like and could really use an overhaul to make them an experience. Now, Disney might decide not to go all out and theme this like they are advertising, but I doubt it...they seem to have hit on a concept that will finally help draw people from one end of DTD all the way to West Side. WDW has always been trying to figure out how to "draw" people through this area (one of the reasons of opening PI to walkthrough) and just haven't succeeded, no matter how hard they have tried.

I don't know, sometimes I think Dave and Busters would be a step up! Night time entertainment goes beyond night clubs though. My wife will not go to a night club/bar type place. Just won't do it. House of Blues, yeah....I could probably get her there, but she won't go somewhere just to dance or to drink. I would love to see a full service Comedy Club, doesn't have to be R rated (at least until late and they could do age restrictions then..say an after 10 show or something) and I think it would be successful. There are options outside of PI and nightclubs and maybe they will come in, even if they are third party.

getback: I think there are probably more Disney fans that hope you won't return than there are that hope Adventurers Club won't! It was something that was very Disney! Much more so than anything in the present proposal. Maybe PI overall needed to be changed but AC was a shining example of Disney at its best.

I admit that I never hung out at the AC when it was there. I realize it had a loyal following and it's closing must be a dissapointment to those individuals. I can tell you that I have never been overly impressed with PI and never spent much time there. We were there in 2002-2009 while these night clubs were open and after they closed. We did DTD only 1 night per trip and most times PI seemed like a dead zone. We really spent the bulk of our time shopping and eating on the Marketplace side. Or, maybe we ate on the West Side and then walked through PI to get to the Marketplace.

When I read that WDW was closing the nightclubs in PI I mentioned it to DH and he said "Those clubs are still there?" It always seemed so desolate to us. We eat later dinners too-around 8:30, 9:00, etc. So, we were there during times when you would think it would be busy. I admit I'm surprised that so many are so dissapointed in their closing. We thought Raglan Road was a fantastic addition to PI and we hoped that more restaurants like it would come. We still do.

I'm excited at the prospect of more shopping and restaurants, but that's what I like. It's what I like about Las Vegas too, so maybe it's just me. :goodvibes

The last couple trips we really just stayed and shopped on the Marketplace side which we enjoy, and then had dinner at Raglan Road. If more shopping and restaurants come, we probably would do DTD more than 1 night per trip. Now of course I'm hoping for more interesting shopping choices and not more Mickey stuff that can be found everywhere. We shall have to wait and see. But, at this point I'm hopeful and like the look of the new plans for the area. It looks like it could be a very beautiful place to be at night.

i think it would be very undisney like to bring it back exactly as it was.

If they bring it back then they've got to move it on somehow - somehow take a new theme from the same back story.

It also all depends on the back story for HW... assuming disney actually bothers to create one.

I think you and I are on the same page. They need something besides the themeparks with real entertainment after 10PM. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. I love AC, but if they attempted some different type of entertainment I would love to try it out, but right now there is no reason for me to go to DTD. Even everyone who like to shop, there are very few things that are sold there that aren't available in a park or online.

I think they could bring it back if they really wanted to, or at least a re-vamped version of it. Of course, if they do the later people will complain about it not being the same. People just love to complain. The other night I made the mistake of asking a neighbor that recently returned from WDW how their trip was. After listening to her complain about the crowds, other peoples kids, her room service food, the lighting in Flying Fish (I'm not kidding), the crowds at Fantasmic, the childrens menus, etc. I began to look around for ANYONE I knew to rescue me. :rotfl:
