uughhh . :scared: :crazy2: :headache: :guilty:

Sorry you've had to scurry around and stress and all that, but I have a question -- why do you think you wouldn't have been able to use DME if you were flying out of ABE?

"Participating airline" only has to do with luggage handling (and early flight check-in) on your RETURN trip.. ANYONE who flies a commercial airline into MCO gets the full DME treatment.

I so wanted to fly out of ABE for our trip in December this year, but there never seem to be any solid, reliable arlines that go that route regularly. It puzzles me why our local airport cannot nail down an airline that can provide this service on a consistent basis. It's been on again, off again for quite a few years now and it is quite frustrating.

I have just settled on travelling out of Philly which has many direct flights each day with different airlines to choose from. I hate the drive to the Philly airport but it's the most consistent, reliable way to go. Non stop flights too for good rates if you watch the airline sites and grab a flight at the right time. We are flying out and back on Saturdays and we got round trip tix with US Air for $186.00 per person non stop flights on thier site. Keep trying every day to see prices change and when you think they are as good as they are gonna get, purchase the tix. Good luck and enjoy your trip. I wish I was going as early as you. Unfortunately I have to endure the pain of waiting all year for December to come. :(

Gosh, I hope Allegiant doesn't decide to bail out. I finally got the courage the other day and booked our airfare for June.

I think the real answer is that Hooters and Vacation Express flew into Sanford which is not serviced at all by DME.

We were planning to fly out of ABE on Allegiant in May and then the DING $34.00 each way from Philly airfare came out and I booked that instead ( $368.40 total for all 4 of us roundtrip-AMAZING!). I had already booked a rental through Sandford and much to my surprise when I cancelled and booked an SUV from Alamo at MCO, it was $140.00 less the compact I'd booked through Dollar at Sanford! I used the $140.00 to book us a stay and park package at the Comfort Inn by the airport so we don't have to drive down the day of our flight. Good Luck!

The problem is Sanford isn't a participating airport. The point that the poster was making is being able to use DME offset some of the extra airfare and some of the inconvenience from having to get to PHL to fly.

HootersAir flies into MCO not Sanford, we just used them in Dec. and DME.

but the OP was being changed to vacation express which flies into Sanford. Hooters seem to have dropped service to Orlando from some cities have put some passengers with Vacation Express.

I could not justify flying into Sanford from ABE and then having to secure other transportation or car rental and the costs associated with that, so we just bite the bullet and drive to Philly. We never go off site in WDW so we do not want the expense of a car rental that we would only use to and from the airport. I will travel to MCO nonstop from Philly and use the DME service for our shuttle needs. Suits us just fine.

As with the last time this issue was raised, I went to HOOTERSAIR.COM to see if my daughter and SIL and kids had theirs changed from AVP. They're still on from MArch 5 - 12 and several flights around their dates, both legs, are sold out. Also, Hooters just added service from AVP to Myrtle Beach starting next month. It seems like they're successful from there so residents of NE Pa may have a cheap option for a direct flight to MCO. If they're still flying when we plan our '07 trip I'll use them, but for now, my condolences to those affected by the ABE situation.

Well, all I can say is I am soooooo glad that I did not go ahead and book with Hooters out of AVP when I originally wanted to. Since then, they have cancelled the return flight (they stopped Saturday flights) and moved the departing flight to the evening!!!!
Thank goodness I didn't book with them.
Unfortunately, we planned our vacation days around the flights that were available with Hooters initially. Now everyone has their room reservations made, time scheduled off from work, etc. I think I'm gonna go with SW out of PHL. It sure woulda been nice to fly direct out of AVP though.

not only do i hate the philly drive i now have to do it on 6 pm friday night with all the traffic, it's the only affordable flight
yes they were correct they moved us to sanford not mco, they did say some flights leave scranton on thursdays but that didn't fit us,,
had to call movies add another night. they were sold out had to move to allstarsports,

Leanne11 I feel for ya. As a professional driver here in northeastern PA I think we all know too well how the trip to Philly can be especially on a Friday at rush hour. Once you're on the way there aren't many options to avoid any traffic or delays that come up on 476 or 95. All I can say is leave as early as possible in the afternoon to be sure you are there on time. I am also pretty sure that the security checkpoints will be quite busy on a Friday at that time with all the other travellers for the weekend. I wish you the best on an enjoyable trip.
