Which would you choose? I know the food is similar at both...which has the better show. Is Mickey always at the BBQ (my DS is a huge fan and would be highly disappointed if Mickey wasn't at Mickey's BBQ)?

For anyone who has been to either, what are your comments? Thanks to all.

We have not done Hoop De Do but plan to on our next trip. We did do the BBQ a few years ago. It was August and about 100 degrees outside! There is a cover over you, but no A/C just ceiling fans that we could not feel at all! The food was fine, regular BBQ stuff. The music was country western, they did line dancing and such. I think it was Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale. It was pretty crowded on the dance floor. I tell everyone I know NOT to do this is the summer months, I was really too hot and miserable to eat. Hoop De Do is much more of a "show" from what I have heard. Good luck deciding...Lacee

Laceemouse....thanks for the info, we are going in August and never thought about it being outside. I can see where that would be miserable. Do you know if HDD is inside and has a/c?

Has anyone been to HDD? Is it worth the money? Thanks.

We loved the Hoop Dee Doo!! We went in Sept while on our honeymoon and my husband was "picked on" during the show and it was a real hoot!! The food was surprisingly good for a dinner show...we did not expect much but it was hot and plentiful. They served food right away so no waiting. It is indoors, don't remember if there was AC but it was very comfortable temperature wise. I highly recommend it! The show is lively and interactive and good for all ages.

LOVE  LOVE  LOVE  LOVE  LOVE HOOP DEE DOO REVUE!!!

we were originally booked for mickeys bybbq and then i found out no a/c and buffet style food... we switched our ps to the HDDR and were eternally thankful... it is w/out a doubt our most memorable experience at all of disneyworld in all our trips! cannot wait to do it again! well worth every cent!

The BBQ was fun when our kids were little. I can best describe it as a company picnic setup. You do have to stand in line to pick up your food, buffet style (can be a challenge with small kids). Seating is at a picnic table. You do have a roof over your head, but nothing on the sides. The country band is excellent and if your kids like to dance, they will have a ball. The character interraction was great with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale. There are a limited number of guests and the characters stayed out for quite a long time. We probably wouldn't do it again, but I'm glad that we did try it.

We have done both. Mickeys BBQ was fun. Would probably be better if you enjoy country music. The characters were mobbed each time they came out so it was difficult for most people to interact with them as children chased them around most of the time.

We LOVE the HDD. Been there 6 times and going for #7 at Spring Break. It is air conditioned and considering what you pay for a simple meal in any of the parks, the cost is very reasonable. Don't forget, beer and wine are included. It's a great show. My sons love it. In fact, the first thing out of their mouths when we tell them we're going to WDW is "are we going to the HDD?"

The BBQ was more like a picnic. The HDD is a dinner show. If you've never done either, I would recommend the HDD. Like one of the earlier poster's said, I'm glad we did the BBQ but don't think we'll do it again. Now the HDD...I can't imagine taking at trip to WDW with the kids and not doing it.

Yes, several times.

Not only does it have a/c, but you might need a wrap or jacket as it can get COLD in there. Food is above average - great fried chicken, good ribs (sometimes dry) and served family style. The show takes place before and after you eat, but not while you are eating which is nice. :charac2:

:scratchin: Yes, in my opinion and, from what I have read on the boards, to MOST people, it is worth the money. It is a lot of food and a lot of fun. NOTE: They also serve wine and beer (included in the cost of the meal). :drinking1:

The earlier you make your reservation, the better the seating - floor first from front to back, then balcony (which some people prefer). We like the floor in the center - right in the middle of the action. This year we are going to the 9:30 p.m. show and I have NEVER eaten that late. :headache: Fortunately we don't have to get up early the next day.

On the romantic side: There are also 30 minute carriage rides for 2 through FW for $30. They provide blankets for cooler evenings too! Great fun and an be quite romantic in a rugged sort of way! :love2:
(You can book it through 407-WDW-PLAY - or they may make a PS through WDW-DINE)

My DS is 8 so I know he will enjoy the experience of HDD...how about my 14 y/o DD...will she kill me...anyone attended with a teenager?

I have 3 sons, currently 21, 16 and 12. I think my oldest was 10 or so the first time we saw HDD. They all consider it a highlight of our trips. I've read before some people have had a teen with an attitude who didn't enjoy it, but mine have always had a good time (in the 6 times we've seen it).

We're going again in March and the first thing the kids asked was "are we going to the HDD"?

Looks like it will be HDD for us!!! Thanks for all the wonderful replies. I now feel confident booking this for my family. :worship:

No A/C!! Im so glad I read that! Im not paying all that money to sweat over my food.
I dont know what kind of back yard bbq I was thinking they were having. For some reason I thought it would be inside and decorated. Everytime Im there its soooooooo hot. I look forward to dinning in a/c.

We love the Hoop Dee Doo. We've never done Mickey's Backyard BBQ. The Hoop Dee Doo is hilarious.:teeth:
