I don't eat meat but do eat seafood. We would like to go to the HDDR. I looked at the menu and it looks like ribs, chicken and beans (I am sure they have meat in them). What is a non meat eater to do? What other food items can they offer?

Same diet here, we'll skip HDDR. I've read less than cooperative special accomdations being made and I would not spend the $/credit for cole slaw and bad potato salad. Also its family style where you're seated with others. You'll be passing around that bucket of fried chicken; not my idea of a good meal experience. I'm too old to accept whatever they're willing to throw at us vegetarians. Its not that hard to give us value.

HDD also gives vegetarians the option of being served food from the same kitchen as Trails End. Do not despair! Trails End has great veggie options.:thumbsup2

I'd have to call to confirm this. I was involved on a thread like this last year. It was for MBYBBQ. Guest was told to enjoy the vegetarian options already on the menu: potato salad, corn on the cob, coleslaw. I would not spend 2TS or $50+ for that menu, sorry. Not sure I'd spend that for TE either.

This is the "cheap" seat pricing for HDDR:
Category 3 Adults (10 and up) $50.99 including tax and gratuity
Children (3-9) $25.99 including tax and gratuity

If paying OOP perhaps I one could say $20 for meal, $30 for show, but esp. on DP its 2 TS meals, way too steep to have a meal of side orders.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I just don't see how to get a valuable meal for $50 or 2TS with my diet. I've been a vegetarian for over 35yrs and no longer just take what's offered; feed me fair or not at all.

I think there are some resteraunts where vegetarians just should not expect to frequent. I am thinking family style places where the main dish or dishes involve meat.

I have seen people complain about eating at Ohana as well which is primarily a meat menu with side dishes.

There are plenty of other options in Disneyworld for people who choose not to eat meat. I am not sure it is their obligation to make accomodations at every resteraunt for everyone's chosen eating lifestyle.

I think Disney makes reasonable and in most cases, exceptional accomodations for those with food allergies.

I agree with you: 'Ohana, all of the 2TS dinner shows don't quite fit for us. I am skeptical of CRT(but could see trying at some point) and won't bother with WCC for several reasons. We've really enjoyed our dining experiences at Disney. Some places just aren't for us. No hard feelings for Disney as there are lots of other choices and being hungry on the DP definitely was not our experience. We ate well and we ate plenty.

We did the Hoop De Doo last June and had a great time! The food was really good (we aren't vegetarians though). As I was walking to our table, I passed a table of four and I heard the lady ask about options for a vegetarian. The waitress said she'd check to see what was available and get right back with them. I didn't get to see what was brought out for her though. (And you're right, for $50, it should be something more than mashed potatoes!)

Although it is served family style, it is only your family that sits at a table, and you only pass food amongst your family.

Dont give up on the HDDR. It is so much fun! When we were planning our trip I told the CM that my daughter is a very picky eater. She told me to call 24 hours before my reservation and that the chef would make pizza for my daughter. Well I forgot to do this and she ended up trying and liking fried chicken. Maybe you should call the the dine line # to see if this could happen for you. I was transferred to the kitchen by the HDDR and given a # to call 24 hours before. If I can find it I will PM you. She was given mac & cheese instead of beans. The salad is very good there too.

We went Dec 07 with my brother's gf who is veggie girl. I forgot to add this to our reservation ahead of time, I might add. They were very nice and she had a plate of pasta, along with the cornbread and salad. It might not have been terribly filling, but then again, we all enjoyed the sangria very much and did not miss the food! :rotfl2:

I've made advance ressies for the HDDR, and mentioned that there were a few of us veggies in the group; we were provided a veritable smorgasbord from the Trails End (located next door). For those who ate seafood, they provided peel and eat shrimps, etc. And they brought us out a couple of extras that I believe were prepared just for us, since we noted that we were veggies prior to our seating. Plus everything else veggie that was offered at the Trails End. Your best bet, if you are reluctant to spend all that $, is to call HDDR before making ressies and ask what your options are. DO NOT ASK A CM ON DISNEY DINING ! There are a few that will be educated on the subject, but for the most part, they simpy read from whatever info they have been provided with . . . .

We also call the HDDR about 24 hours in advance and let them know about whatever special requests we have (veggies, or picky children in attendance, etc.).

Yes, do call ahead and you will be accomodated. Trails End uses the same kitchen and everytime in last 10+ years that I have eaten at T.E. they have some type of seafood option, usually a fried cod or a salmon dish, sometimes both. Peel and eat shrimp are also always on the buffett as well as some hot veggies. As someone else said, it is served to the table as a group, but only your group will be at the table, and your meal would be brought out with out any problems. The HDDR is sooooo much fun.
