Hi all! So we have never done a dinner show...which one would you pick? I also have a few questions:
1.is it really worth 2 DDP credits...would WCC or O'Hana be just as good for 1 credit?
2.Is the food good or is it just about the show?
3. On DDP, how do you book, I see they require payment at booking?

Thanks for all your help

In Sept. we did all three dinner shows and by far the best one was Hoop Dee Doo. We loved it so much we went back on our December trip. The show is definately a big part of it but the food is also very good here as well. The food at the Poly luau was not near as good and the show was just ok imo. This show is definately worth 2 table service credits. I would not pay 2 credits for mickeys backyard bbq nor for the poly luau again though. The show at the luau is just not up to the standards of the hoop dee doo. The hoop dee doo is the longest running dinner show in the world and this is for a very good reason. It is an excellent show. We did WCC in Sept. as well and the food was very good here but the entertainment was not what we expected from reading reviews. The Hoop Dee Doo is def. worth going to. The food is about the same at WCC as at Hoop Dee Doo but the show alone is definately worth the extra credit.

With the dining plan you do not have to pay for the dinner ahead of time but you do have to give them a credit card guarantee in case you do not show up. They do not ever charge anything on the card unless you do not show up or cancel within 48 hours. For our December trip the CM messed up and did charge our card by mistake so be sure the money is there just in case but I called and they reversed the charges right away with no problems at all. It was back in our account within 48 hours.

We picked our tickets up at the front desk of our hotel and at that time they will take the credits off from your dining plan. Do not loose these tickets as they are non refundable/non reprintable tickets. We picked ours up the day before and put them in our room safe. We were also told not to rip the ticket apart because they will be considered voided.

Note: You can only get cat 2 and cat 3 seating on the dining plan except for the 9:30 pm show you can get cat 1. We did the 9:30 show both times we went and had cat 1 seating for both. I highly recommend this seating if you can possibly eat that late. Some CMs are not aware of this and think that you can not get cat 1 for any show while on the dining plan so be sure to ask if they tell you that they have nothing available except cat 3. I had this happen while booking our Dec trip and I kept calling back to try to get a better seat and was told by another CM that they had a lot of room left for Cat 1 seating. Other people on the Dis have said that the show is a bit more adult in humor and language used for the 9:30 show than for other times as there are less kids at this showing. In Sept. the place was filled but in Dec. no one was upstairs in Cat 3 and no one was in the very back in Cat 2. If there is room like this left they will move those people that paid for cheaper cats. to better seats.

Enjoy whichever you choose and have a great trip.

We've done both and by far I prefer HDDR! It's great for all ages and high energy. I really didn't like the SOA show. I would suggest dining at Ohana's instead. The food is the same at Ohana's and SOA show. Now, just a word on the food...I'm not a big rib or chicken-on-the-bone (don't like to pull meat off of bones) fan but both shows offer other foods which are good. I love the strawberry shortcake dessert at HDDR!

We love the Hoop Dee Doo Review and we are going back on our upcoming trip.
You need to have your expectations in line to truly enjoy it.
The food is "down home" cooking - not gourmet but very good. It is all you care to eat, salad, bread and butter, fried chicken and ribs, beans and great strawberry shortcake. It includes beer, wine and sangria.
The show is Western themed and full of singing, dancing and corny jokes. There is lots of audience participation too.
We love it and it is definitely worth it.
Have a Great Trip.

wow! what great info..thanks!!! I am thinking about booking for our 1st night. We should pull into SSR around 1pm...hitting WDW for a few hours, then doing a show....watch the fireworks from there...do the shows end in time to watch the water parade and wishes?

or maybe do the early show and then hit MK for the parade and wishes?

We are going on our first trip in September and I am thinking about booking this for us. Is this something that the entire family will enjoy? I have 2 girls ages 5 and 8 and then myself and DH.

I've attended both evenings on several occasions, and agree with the posters on this thread. Hoop De Doo is far better in both food and entertainment. The only negative is the round-about transportation way one must navagate to get there and back.

I might add that one evening we also did the hayride at the HDDR location. Not worth the time and money at all in my opinion.

Enjoy.

We are staying at SSR, so I think if we head to DTD right next door, and grab a bus to FW, then the bus to the dinner, it may not be so bad...then jump on the boat to MK? Sounds right? Do you think boys 11 & 9 will like this dinner...they may like the girls in the Poly outfits better LOL!

I say Hoop-Dee-Doo! You have to do this at least once! Maybe one of you will get to be in the show at the end. My DH was the angel/fairy at the end. We still laugh at the pictures!
