We've never been to Hoop De Doo, but the BBQ was definitely one of the low points of a prior trip. I had planned it for our last night, thinking it would be a memorable way to finish the stay. Well, it was memorable, but not necessarily in the way we had hoped. Party was myself, DW, DS (18 mos) and my parents. I wouldn't say that any of us really hated it, but it's one of those things where you kinda feel guilty for spending $160, and silently agree to never discuss our foolishness again.
Among the things I didn't like:
- It is held outdoors in a covered shelter. Even in late September, the heat and humidity were just insufferable.
- When you first arrive, they herd you through the buffet line before you can even get a seat. Try pulling that one off with a 2yo and assorted paraphenalia in tow. As usual, strollers must be parked outside.
- By the time we arrived, the shelter was only 1/4 to 1/3 full, but they had already run out of high chairs.
- If you don't like country music--just cross this off your list immediately. We scheduled this mostly for my wife, who is a country music fan. Unfortunately she never really got into the spirit, so it was a lost cause. They have live music, line dancing, characters in western garb, etc. If that stuff is a turn-off to you, you'll be ready to slit your wrists after 5 minutes.
In all fairness, I thought the food was pretty good. How can you screw up BBQ? On our last night, our son finally decided he wanted to eat something (he spent the week thumbing his nose at every $8-10 kids meal we bought, and finally stuffed his face at the free buffet.)

Not unexpectedly, many of the things I listed above are also repeated in these guest reviews. Guess I was living in denial when I scheduled this one...
