We are a family of 6 (3 adults, 3 kids 8,7,5). If you had to choose between HDD or Mickey's BBQ which would you choose?

I did not care much for either of them, but if given a choice, Hoop De Doo.

While the food is similar at each, the entertainment is different. There are no characters at the Hoop-de-doo. The entertainers do involve the audience, and the music and jokes are "corny." I thought Mickey's Barbeque depended a great deal more on audience participation with several opportunities for folks and especially children to interact with the characters. DH and I went in August as part of our anniversary celebration and had fun dancing, and enjoying the rope tricks and country atmosphere. I think kids really like the Barbeque (no strawberry shortcake, tho).

Hoop Dee Doo!

We have been to both, and while my kids did like the characters at the Backyard Bar B Q, they enjoyed Hoop Dee Doo a lot more. With so many character greeting oppurtunities in the parks, having them at the Backyard Bar B Q was not really a big deal.

DD6 has been to Hoop Dee Doo 3 times, and DD3 has been twice. Both were laughing at the show, and both liked the food. In fact, last summer, DD6 laughed so hard, she had to go to the bathroom.

We did not go to Hoop Dee Doo during our Halloween trip, and DD7 has already informed me that she wants to go there next time we go.

HDD!!!! My 2 year old loved it as well as my 15 year old, not to mention two 40 something year old parents!!! Comedy's for any age. We always go to this show when we're in WDW.

We've never been to Hoop De Doo, but the BBQ was definitely one of the low points of a prior trip. I had planned it for our last night, thinking it would be a memorable way to finish the stay. Well, it was memorable, but not necessarily in the way we had hoped. Party was myself, DW, DS (18 mos) and my parents. I wouldn't say that any of us really hated it, but it's one of those things where you kinda feel guilty for spending $160, and silently agree to never discuss our foolishness again. :)

Among the things I didn't like:

- It is held outdoors in a covered shelter. Even in late September, the heat and humidity were just insufferable.

- When you first arrive, they herd you through the buffet line before you can even get a seat. Try pulling that one off with a 2yo and assorted paraphenalia in tow. As usual, strollers must be parked outside.

- By the time we arrived, the shelter was only 1/4 to 1/3 full, but they had already run out of high chairs.

- If you don't like country music--just cross this off your list immediately. We scheduled this mostly for my wife, who is a country music fan. Unfortunately she never really got into the spirit, so it was a lost cause. They have live music, line dancing, characters in western garb, etc. If that stuff is a turn-off to you, you'll be ready to slit your wrists after 5 minutes.

In all fairness, I thought the food was pretty good. How can you screw up BBQ? On our last night, our son finally decided he wanted to eat something (he spent the week thumbing his nose at every $8-10 kids meal we bought, and finally stuffed his face at the free buffet.)

Here's a link to some opinions posted on Deb's site:

Not unexpectedly, many of the things I listed above are also repeated in these guest reviews. Guess I was living in denial when I scheduled this one...

I would choose HOOP DE DOO, my family justed loved it. :earsboy: Plus I don't like seating outside when I have spend so much money, when weather, and bugs can effect my food. :(

Agree with above comments on you really need to love country music and line dancing for the BBQ. Hoop Dee Doo is the much better entertainment otherwise. Now if you really want to see the best show in WDW (and in Florida and the Southeast US) take that money and buy tickets to Cirque du Soliel.

I have never done the BBQ, but let me tell you my family (Me, Dh, DD9, DD6 and DD2) fell in love with Hoop Dee Doo this past May. After a week at WDW, followed by a 7-day DCL cruise, Hoop Dee Doo was the highlight of our whole trip! ::yes::

We have been to the BBQ, and we didnt hate it. But we probably would not do it again. The dance floor was CHAOS!! With the characters out there and the kids just swarming them. There was NO WAY anyone could dance. It was entertaining I guess but not worth the money.

HHD is indoors and BBQ is outdoors, so that may make a difference to some people. We're going in the summer, so there's no way we'd want to be dancing around sweating in the night humidity at Mickey's BBQ.
