My husband and our friends went to the HDD this past Friday. We had previously seen the show about 2 years ago. We remember the food being a LOT better last time than this time. The chicken wasn't crispy, the ribs were WAY overcooked, I felt sick by the end of the meal.

Wasn't overly impressed with the food this time around. The show was good, but not worth the entire cost.

Awww...sorry you weren't able to enjoy your dinner! We went to the HDD on July 2 and everything was GREAT!!!! We really enjoyed the show too! The chicken was hot and crispy, the ribs were done just perfect, and the strawberry shortcake was delicious!! We enjoyed that salad too!!! Maybe it was just a "bad night"????????

We hadn't been to HDD for a few years either (due to the cost). We're glad we tried it this year, and although we really enjoyed the food, it won't be a "must do" for every trip (too expensive).

I've seen it three times and the food quality does change, sometimes the ribs are great, sometimes they are fatty or dry, sometimes the chicken is greasy etc...

Last time the corn on the cob was mushy, really weird texture to it.

The salad is always awesome though :)

We went last December for the first time and the food was horrible!! But the show was terrific and our seats were outstanding. Glad we went but never again after that food!

Now I'm nervous! We're going for the first time this year. I posted here asking for help selecting between Hoop DeeDoo Review & the Poly Luau. Hands down, HDDR won. So, that's what I selected. I really, really hope this works out for us. I know the show will be great, but I'm paying more for dinner for three here than I am dinner at Cindy's castle. I want the food to be good too!!

The food has always been inedible, IMO. Thank heavens our boys were indifferent on the subject of HDDR this year. We are thrilled to be using our TS credits at Jiko instead.

Sorry you had a bad experience. We've been to the show many times over the years and have never had a bad experience and have been very satisfied with the food each time. We will be at HDD 3 weeks from tomorrow and can't wait!

I am curious if the people with bad food were at the later shows? I beleive there are 3 shows a night, maybe the early show has fresher food?

We went to the early show a couple years ago the food was terrible. The kids loved the show but we came out hungry. The only edible dish was the salad. Even the dessert which I never turn down was horrible. We may have hit an off night considering the wonderful reviews the food gets on these boards.

I am going to try the Hoop dee doo revue for the 1st time this year, we booked the first show because we heard the food is the freshest and best quality in the first show.

We went in January and were at the middle time slot. All of us really enjoyed the food, and we're from the south. (my dad knows good fried chicken) He loved it!

I'm sure there are always going to inconsistencies with restaurants. You just hope it's not your night when it's not to perfection.

I mean completely inedible. The ribs were so tough that you literally couldn't bite off any meat. It was like they forgot to cook them.!! We ate at WCC the night before and they were amazing in comparison. The rest of the dinner stank too.
My sister and the kids were happy enough with the show. I bit my tongue all through the show. I have remained silent about our dinner since it is such a DIS board favorite but I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone not to bother with this show. :headache:  :scared1:

Well, there's nothing worse than fried chicken that's not crispy! Did you notify the server? I bet they would have brought you another plate if you'd asked.

We asked our server for another bucket of chicken, and the next bucket was exactly the same as the first. I hate non-crispy fried chicken. It almost looked (and felt) like the chicken was boiled and then they threw shake n' bake on it.

The ribs were NOTHING like the ribs in the picture a few posts back. They were completely black, no bbq sauce (do they come with that?) and were tough, tough, tough. The only thing I liked was the cornbread. I felt so ill by the time dessert came that I passed on that.

were going in Oct.
Call us stupid but we are basically not planning on eating, just going for the experience. We do not eat meat on bones :scared: and basically do not eat much meat at all if any. We will not ask for vegitarian if it is even offered because we are pasta eaters :thumbsup2 .

I've been to 3 HDD's - the ribs were always like the photo posted earlier, red with sauce.

Not surprising. I'm pretty sure they share the kitchen & the food w/Trails end, don't they? It's prob. the same as the food at the BBQ too.
