I'm thinking about doing this one night. Should I use our Dining Plan credits or pay oop?

We used DDP credits on our trip in '09 & plan to again for our trip next May. Just remember that DDP gets you tier 2 or tier 3 seating only for the earlier 2 shows. I think you can get tier 1 for the last show of the night though. We ended up sitting at a table straight back from the stage in the very last row of tables. We loved it because we had a great view but weren't in danger of getting "picked on" by the performers!

We like to do the 9:15 show with our DDP credits which gives us the best seats in the house. Well worth it! We would rather pay for an extra meal OOP over paying for the HDD. I know it's 2 TS but the food is great and the entertainment is great. Even if you can't do the late show and get 2nd tier seats it is still good. Not sure I would do it for 3 tir seats though. :thumbsup2

If you are looking to get the best value you can out of your DDP credits, pay for HDDR out of pocket. I, as a general rule, don't think there is any value in using 2 TS credits on anything. However, HDDR is the only meal where I can justify the use of 2 TS credits.

I would look at what else you have planned. If you have another two meals that you would book otherwise, you will most likely come out ahead booking there. Run the numbers for the meal/tip and compare that to the HDDR. robinb's data indicates the HDDR breaks down as the 36th best average use of a TS credit out of 61 options.

That doesn't account for comparing the food and show to what you would get elsewhere, but it is a good way to see where the credits should be spent. If you would have only have one other meal or have spare credits that wouldn't have been used, then it clearly works out to a better deal to use credits.

We paid OOP for tier 1 seating when we went last year, had a table right in front of the stage and loved it. That being said, seeing how well the performers "work the room", I would take the tier 2 or 3 seating next time and use the DDP. That way if I had to pay OOP for a meal, I would choose a less expensive option.

I use the DDP since everything is included even the Tip. I then pay OOP for a meal that is less expensive (breakfast or The Plaza) or we have been know to share 2 CS meals on a day where everyone is not as hungry. It evens out. We never miss Hoop. It's a must do for this family.

We used DDP- absolutely loved the show (went last Sunday). We had tier 2 seating- were sat right in front of the piano- very very close.

If you're looking at "value" as in squeezing every dime you can get out of the DDP- then maybe you'd go OOP on this one. We'd never do it- there is SO MUCH food on the dining plan I don't see why you'd ever need to pay OOP for anything. We usually go 8 nights, 9 days with two people and do one 2TS meal so we end up splitting 4 counter service meals. Still more than enough food and we never use up our snacks during the week (usually bring stuff home).

Thanks everyone! I think we'll use our TS credits. We've never seen this show before and I'm dying to try it!!

The dining plan-- The gratuity is included
Irrelevant. As the Tipping FAQ points out, the gratuity is included either way.

To move away from tipping and keep the thread open, I'd like to look at the DDP decision. It seems to me that unless the OP has one or fewer other TS options that she is interested in paying OOP, she is better served by paying OOP for HDDR and DDPing the others. As she has stated that she is going to use the DDP credits, I suspect that she doesn't have any other opportunities that she feels she would be missing on.

I'm considering flying in a day earlier than originally planned. The flight doesn't get in until 9:00pm BUT we'll save over $400-which is more than enough to pay for the extra day (just gotta talk DH into it). Since we'll miss dinner on that night it would leave us with an extra TS to use. We aren't planning on doing any other 2TS meals.

You could do the HDDR or you could add a breakfast! That is what we did this time!

I absolutely love the Hoop De Doo! Actually, I wrote an article about it at http://meetthemagic.com. You should pay out of pocket... you get better seats. When you have the better seats, you stand a chance at getting onstage too! Have a great time!

I had this booked this year on our DDP but cancelled it because I really didn't want to use 2TS credits. If we go back next year I am definetly going to book it and use the DDP credits. We found out this time that plenty of the CS places had meals that were definelty big enough to share. We ended up having an extra CS meal the day we checked out and got an extra breakfast for us all to share which most ended up getting wasted anyway. So Next year we will share more of our CS which 2 would have been plenty for us as a family of 4. Then we will have extra CS to when we have to use the 2TS credits. As of right now I haven't booked anything definate but I am planning on leaving my house on Sat.morning which would put us at our resort around 4 or 5 in the afternoon so we could just eat CS meals that day and on our last day we would eat CS breakfast. If we did it this way they it would give us an extra TS credit to use during the week of our stay. I really wished we would have kept it this year but I am still new to the DDP and really didn't know how big some of those CS meals really were and my DH is a big eater and he even said they were plenty big enough to share which we did 1 day at SUnshine Seasons with a sandwich meal.
