Hoop-De-Doo

I love the Hoop Dee Doo. In addition to being a lot of fun as a show- very corny and silly--the food is really, really good. That strawberry shortcake- yum!

We went last July and paid for Cat 3 seating.

Here's what could be the making of a tip (it has worked 1 out of 1 times for me):

We got to Pioneer Hall neither late nor early, and thus got assigned a table in the category 3 balcony area that was neither good nor poor for the Cat 3 area. We were a group of 6 (3 adults, 3 children). We then went to the gift shop across the yard. However, when they rang the dinner bell and people scrambled to get in line as quick as possible, we were just getting back from the gift shop. Consequently, we were at the back of the line to enter Pioneer Hall.

When we entered the hall, I showed the greeter my seating card. A supervisor of some sort came by, ignored the card, and ushered us to a table that would have been on the border of the Cat 1/Cat 2 area on the main floor (maybe four tables back from the stage and not under the balcony)...really good seats!

I noted that the Hall was maybe 70% full, and none of the side balcony seats were filled.

I strongly suspect that, in the case of an unfilled Hall, that the CMs may be instructed to move guests to better tables, so as to improve upon the atmosphere and to make it more efficient for the wait staff.

My tip: be at, or near, the end of the line going into the Hall and you may be upgraded to a much better table. This may not work if the Hall is at capacity, however the worst that could happen is that you'll get the seat that was assigned to you.

Tables are assigned in advance in the order reservations were received. The earlier you reserve, the better your seat will be.

This may be plausible if you choose to book category3 on cost and categories 1 and 2 are still available. If only category 3 remains available to book, I'm assuming all the category 1 and 2 seating is filled. So, still wondering if category 3 is worth it, considering it's still a pricey ticket. We've done the show, but may book with others who have not.

We loved it, back when we had AP's it was so nice to get our TIW discount. Now I just can't bring myself to pay that much! We would totally do it again, I regret not doing it two years ago when we had the DDP.

They offered to bring my dd macaroni and cheese and I think a hot dog from the Trails End Buffet and I noticed the little boy next to us was eating food that was not on the HDDR food menu.

Give it a try!

If you call the day before your ressie, or the morning of your ressie, quite often you can order a child's meal that they will procure from the Trail's End restaurant located next door. They have mac and cheese, chicken fingers, cheeseburgers, etc. Call and inquire if they still do this . . . .

We had Cat 2 seating in the balcony. I thought our seats were good. I believe Cat 3 seats are along the sides of the balcony and would be closer to the stage than where we were. I think that view would be better than Cat 2 on the main floor because of the unobstructed view. Claire came up and stood there rubbing DS5's hair for a few minutes before he even turned around & realized it wasn't Mom or Dad.

HDDR is a must-do for us every trip!:thumbsup2 We all love the corny humor and the comfort food.:cloud9: DH especially loves the unlimited beer and sangria.:drinking1 I swear that on our last trip I laughed the loudest I ever have at the jokes, and it's not like I haven't heard the same ones at least 5 or 6 times already.:rotfl2::lmao:

We went to HDDR on July 6, 2010. The 7:15 show.

Our table was assigned by a CM with a clipboard and a seating chart just outside Pioneer Hall.

We arrived at Pioneer Hall at 6:30. We picked up our tickets (which we had reserved several months in advance) at the ticket window to the left of Pioneer Hall. She took a look at our tickets, confirmed that there were six in our group, wrote a table number on a slip of paper and handed it to us. She then crossed out a table on the seating chart. I recall that it was in the balcony area, sort of in the left-rear area.

It seems to me that the table was assigned on the spot.

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it!

They might also take into account the size of your party. We had a group of 10 and about 2 months before our trip I changed our Cat. 1 reservations from the 5 pm show to the 7:15 show. When we arrived our table was right smack in the center of the floor. I was also the lucky one who was "recognized" by Claire LeLune at the beginning of the show. Made my night.
