Let me preface this by saying that none of us is a country music fan. We don't hate it, we just don't really listen to it. That being said, the atmosphere of these two dinners sounds like fun.

So, which one is better and why? It will be me, DH, DD4, and DD6 in June.

Will we hate it if we don't know that kind of music? Is it worth the 2 TS credits and the trip to FW?

If we want a dinner show, would Spirit of Aloha be better or are the shows not worth it.

FYI, we are staying at CBR, currently plan to do AK that day, and do NOT have Park Hoppers. I am somewhat flexible on everything except where we are staying at this point.

Advice and information is much appreciated.

None of us are really country music fans either, of course it is around since we live in Texas but I don't go out of my way to listen to it.

That being said, Hoop De Doo has been a big hit with most people I've taken to experience it, especially people in the 3-9 age range. It is country, of course, but it's almost cartoon country - not like sitting at a Tim McGraw concert or anything. More like having dinner in Petticoat Junction with the folks from Hee-Haw.

I don't personally like the Backyard BBQ as much, just that we went both times in summer heat and I don't like summer heat while I'm eating.

I liked them both, but I think the grandkids ages 5 and 6 liked the BBQ becuase they got to get up and dance with Mickey and friends and the other kids. It was more of a party to them than a show. We don't really do country either but they were dancing!

Hoop de Doo is a must-do for us!!!:thumbsup2

We've done the BBQ, and like the pp said...after a day at the parks, we really need an escape from the heat.

The HDDR is not a "country" show, per se, it has sing-a-longs, humor, audience participation..it's just a really good time...esp. the unlimited Sangria!!!!:dance3:

Sangria!!! my eyes opened when I read that comment..we are booked to go for Mothers Day and I had no idea there was free drink included..is it just Sangria or anything else included? Boy will I have a wonderful Mothersday to remember!!!!:thumbsup2

My daughter, now 4, loves the BBQ. I mean, you get to dance with Mickey, Minnie, etc. How cool is that? HDDR was cute, but too corny for us. DD didn't really get a lot of the jokes, though she was only 3. I'm not an audience participation kind of girl, but I like watching my daughter dance and have fun. Though it was hot outside, it was shaded and comfortable in the pavillion for the BBQ (we've done it 3x in mid-July). Plenty to drink, ice cream...honestly, the heat wasn't that bad. It isn't like you're dancing the whole time. But, I'm from Florida, so perhaps I'm used to it! We love to go and then head back to the hotel for a swim. Great evening.

The Hoop de Doo sounds like a lot of fun I might do that if it is not too expensive

Here is the list of beverages included with your meal at the Hoop-Dee-Doo:

Coca Cola, Diet Coke, Root Beer, Sprite, Orange, Pink Lemonade, Iced Tea, Apple Juice, Milk, Chocolate Milk, Hot Tea, Coffee, Draft Bud Light, Chardonnay, Rose, Sangria, and Merlot. :thumbsup2

Bottled beer and mixed drinks cost extra.

Thanks for the info. We are booked at the BBQ, but I was starting to second guess myself. The dancing sounds like it will be more what my kids want to do.

It would probably be a good idea to watch the videos on YouTube. HDDR Im glad I did because it didnt seem like something i would like to watch. I would rather spend 1 TS and go to Trails End with the same food and more variety.

We love the HDDR and have gone several times over the years. I first went in the early 80's when my children were young. We all loved it. Since then I have been back a few times with adults only groups - who had a blast and loved every minute, as well as with my 3 and 5 yo Grandchildren.
It was so nice to see that my adult son wanted to introduce his own children to the experience he so enjoyed when he was a child.
The food is good "down home cooking" and the show is high energy singing, dancing, and lots of corny jokes.
I have read complaints here on the DIS that the BBQ was like a free for all. Folks have complained that during the dancing younger children were pushed aside by agressive older ones, as well as some adults trying to get pictures of "their kids". The food doesn't appeal as much and it just doesn't sound like fun to me
Enjoy whatever you choose.

HDDR!:thumbsup2 It's a must do for us every trip. The show is lots of fun for all ages, it has unlimited comfort food (fried chicken, ribs, cornbread, strawberry shortcake), and unlimited pitchers of beer and sangria!:goodvibes And one of my favorite things is ice cold A/C, which is fantastic after melting all day at the parks.:sad2:

Question I am going to Mickey's Back Yard BBQ how do you get there from POP?

Do you need to take a taxi?:confused3
Easiest way is to take a bus to MK, then take a boat to Ft Wilderness. It's a short walk from the boat dock. A taxi would let you out at the outpost and you would need to take an internal bus to MBYBBQ.

HDDR doesn't interest us although I know its really popular. We did the BBQ with our two girls 5 and 7 and we all loved it. We got there early to line up and as we were at the front of the line, my girls were chosen to open the BBQ. They were given a big triangle that one held and the other hit and they declared the BBQ open. Then they were given a certificate to remember their magical moment by and we were escorted into the Pavillion before anyone else. We had a really good time that night.

Did both HDR and BBQ with kids at 20mos & 4. Both have country flare but are not "country". My kids really liked both. Food was almost exactly the same at both places. HDR has AC and BBQ does not and it was hot under the pavillion even in October. HDR has set seating where BBQ is literally a free for all and a run for the best tables!!! Its crazy. BBQ has multiple characters to interact with and HDR does not. Just note that there are a LOT of kids all trying to get the attention of the few characters on the floor. Its organized chaos. With that said the kids did have a good time but were slightly disappointed b/c they could see kids dancing with the characters but every time they got close bigger kids or pushy parents bumped them. My main concern was keeping the 20mos old from being trampled. Your kids are bit older so should be in a better position to get some dancing time! If not, they will still enjoy the show and watching the characters. But in the end, my kids actually preferred the HDR and didn't ask to go back to BBQ. As adults we LOVED the HDR -- its corny humour but after the stress of a park day it was nice to sit in AC and laugh! So, final take is both were good in their own special way!!!
