I've lurked here for a long time, but cannot find much information about Hoop De Doo.

If you've been recently, can you tell me *honestly* what you thought about it? Is it worth the money? Would you do it again?

I appreciate you helping out a newbie.

*hand raised* OK, I'll weigh in.

You've probably checked out the menu. I'll rate the food as a 6.5 or 7 on a 1-10 scale. It IS bulk loading food, prepared for the masses. But it's not at all bad. Just understand it's not the main attraction. The fried chicken is better than the ribs (although they've changed their rib preparation in the last couple of years. They used to be WAY too chewy and dry.) The sides are all fine.

As for the show - leave any sophisticated yearnings at the door. It's pure corn, but very well done corn. On our last visit, after Christmas, I don't know if we were so tired that ANYTHING would've been funny, or if it was genuinely hilarious, but I swear - no kidding - my jaws ached from laughing. Maybe we were just punchy, but it was hokum served up in abundance. And, DD got chosen to be a can-can dancer for one of the sketches, which made it all the more memorable.

I'd say it's worth doing at least once - but, again, remember you aren't going for the food. We'd do it again, and have done it three or four times over the years.

I agree with the previous poster. My last visit to the Hoop was a good 5-6 years ago, with another one planned this September thanks to the Dining Plan!!! :woohoo:

The food - it's good. Its not "OMG - THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING _____ IVE EVER EATEN" however, it's good, fresh, and filling.

The show, on the other hand - I LOVE THE SHOW! HA! I, like the previous poster, dont know *why* I found it so darn amusing, or why the kids found it so darn amusing - but good greif, we all had a wonderful time.

Maybe it's the bottomless :drinking1 cup-o-wine?? :scratchin

In any event - IMO, I think it's worth it - at LEAST once. It's fun. My boys - now 15 and 11 - are totally psyched about it, cuz they remember how fun it was! The whole crowd is drinking the bottomless cup-o-wine....errr, I mean *having fun* party: which makes it all the more enjoyable! :jumping1:

Its a good time - if youve never done it, I say go for it!

We've done the HDD 7 times with our 8th trip in 2 weeks. I agree with what the previous posts have said. The food is good, but not like it's fine cuisine. We laugh from beginning to end even after 7 times. It's just a great way to spend an evening.

And my kids still talk about dad in a pink toto when I got pulled up on stage to perform as Davey Crocketts angel (although they claim I was a fairy)!

We love HDDR, and enjoy the food though that's not a make or break for us. We enjoy the show enough to go and just pick at the food if we had to. Thankfully we don't have to, it's pretty yummy =)

I saw the show as a 4 year old, 11? year old, and again as a 27 year old with my DH. Each time was a different exp and each time I enjoyed it. We all found the show to be very very funny, they do it well, and we were sad when it ended last time.

I'm dying to see it again this year but can't figure out how to give up another night for it =)

There will always be people that aren't amused by it but it's hard to tell ahead of time whether or not that'll be you, you know? It's very very long running, they haven't changed the show in over 20 years, and it's almost always packed. So that says something, but still can't promise you'll love it - but I think most do ;) I think everyone should exp it once, it's a long standing Disney tradition.

I agree!

We (dh, me, ds-10, ds-6, & dd-4) LOVED it! The food is ok. It is not bad but it isn't great. They will also serve chicken nuggetts and mac-n-cheese for the picky eaters. I think you have to request it in advance.
You have to remember that the cost is also for the fabulous and funny entertainment! :teeth: My cheeks/jaws hurt from laughing sooo much! I wasn't sure if my kids would enjoy the humor- but they loved it. My 4 yr old didn't really get all the jokes but she still loved the show. She wants to be the lady in the yellow dress when she grows up. :goodvibes
In fact, when I announced to my kids that we are going in September again to WDW- the first request was the 'hoopie-doo' show! :rotfl:

We did HDDR in 2004, and it was on my kids (13 & 11yos) MUST DO for our upcoming trip.

The food is OK, but that is not really why you are going. The show is CORNY, however, that is my DH's humor, which has rubbed off on my kids, so this is right up their alley.

Ahh, how true. I married a man who enjoys this kind of simple, silly humor, and passed on that trait to our kids. To see my DH and three kids laughing so hard got me going, but I swear I wouldn't have 'gotten it' if it weren't for their enjoyment. Now I will never miss an opportunity to see my family (and me!) delight in such an entertaining show. :)

Just went a week ago and the show was GREAT! It's the 4th time I've been. My DD's 3 & 6 loved it. The food is good - just average. The Sangria was very good - and I'm not a wine fan at all. The show is corny, but a good corny - very enjoyable - I highly recommend it. :thumbsup2

LOVED IT!!! I am a former theatre professional as is my husband. Sister and bil are chefs. WE ALL LOVED IT!!! SOOOOOOO Fun!!! It is not a gormet meal but plain ole good eats. Kids aged 5, 7, 9 plus 68 yr old grandma loved it too!!! GO GO GO!!

Vote for yes here.

Having experienced the "review" twice, I realize that it is one of those Disney vacation things that you need to push in the clutch in your brain to free wheel and just have plain old fun. I too have worn the pink tutu and the family has photos to prove it.

Food is average, drinks are large, humor is corny and it is a pain to find especially in the dark, but in the right mind set it all comes together.

When we went in Feb, we didn't really know what to expect. We just knew that it was a dinner show. We had the BEST time! It's true corn ball craziness, that's for sure! Think Hee-Haw meets Disney! We enjoyed it tremendously, and will be going again in September. My 14yo started out with this "why did you bring me here????? :furious: attitude. By the end of the night, she was laughing and stomping and having the BEST time! The food is OK...not a 5 star meal, that's for sure. But, it was FUN! If you like goofiness, enjoy interacting with strangers in a positive way and beer on the DDP...then you should enjoy this.

It is pure family entertainment. Like everyone has said, pure corny fun but it entertains our three kids, even the 2 year old sat mesmerized. The wine is pretty good, rolls good, fresh salad and the food is good and hot. Not fine quisine, but not yucky...like you went to that great yearly picnic with good chix, ribs and corn. The server last time even brought us a dish of really good cole slaw when I mentioned to her that they need to add it to the menu to offset the heavier items. Its a great time...we always leave lite on our feet. :thumbsup2

Hoop De Don't
I have to laugh at this.. it amused me. We saw HDDR when I was 19 and I thought it was very funny. It is very corny indead but its great for a family. They had this strawberry shortcake that i spent most of the night trying to figure out how to sneak out a whole bunch of it.. heaven. I am sure it has changed in the past 15 years though.
I am toying with doing it again this trip but my mom is not so much into corn and may hate it and I am sure we all know that not much is worse than an irritated mom. Then again if I get enough of that sangria down her she would probably enjoy watching paint dry.

I have seen the show twice now. Once in December '05 and again in May '06.

The food is good plain old home cooking style. It is not gourmet or anything fancy. Just good eats and served or should I say slammed with style?

The show itself is beyond funny to me. I laugh so hard that I find tears running down my face for most of the show. The Sangria is good and plentiful.

My family tells me that I made best friends with another mom on the boat ride back to WL. I guess she and I are light-weight drinkers and we were both feeling pretty good at the end of the show. I am told we sat on the benches and sang and foot danced all the way to WL! I hope she had a good time too! :lmao:

I will go again and if I am lucky I will talk a family member into volunteering to go on stage! :goodvibes
