Hoop-De-Doo or Signature Restaurant?

We extended our trip two extra days (poor us!) and decided to use the extras 2TS credits for 1 dinner. I really want to do HDDR but my DSis12 would rather do a signature dining experience. I know this seems a little backwards but she is just an oh so mature pre-teen.

I was hoping for some opinions on what you would do. I have no idea what signature restaurant to do if we go that route because I have never looked into them. What is everyones favorites?

Value wise 2 TS credits for a meal anywhere doesn't pencil out. If you have never been to HDDR I would say go there. There are restrictions when using DDP credits though.

The only restriction is you can only use it for tiers 2 and 3 for the 5 and 7:15 shows. It is good for all seating levels for 9:30. HDDR is good plain food and a great show. And the tip is included, unlike most dining. Sis is too young for the best perk, though, as are you if you're not 21 yet.

Luckily I will be 21 by the time we go! So I will benefit. I am from Canada so I have had the luxury of being able to drink here for a while. I wont lie, it was annoying on our trip last summer when I wanted a drink or a glass of wine with dinner

Go to HDDR...it's so much fun and the food is good. We went for the first time in September and we will be back. I have always said that the dinner shows are too expensive and I would never pay for them. This year we had free dining and because we arrived in the evening on our first day we had an extra credit so I used it for the HDDR. I will for sure pay for this show on a future trip. In general I would much rather use the extra credits for a dinner show than a signature restaurant. For me dinner shows are actually giving you something extra for that extra credit.

Here is another vote for HDDR....especially with kids. Even though we are a child free couple, we LOVE it!!

Although I too would vote for the HDDR, as the food is quite good as is the show, if you are going to opt for the upscale dining experience, I would suggest Artist Point, Yachtsmens, or Citricos.

Another vote for the HDDR. We, all adults, went last week and we loved it. The show was great fun and the food was very good.
I think it is a better use of 2 credits.
If you choose to go the Signature route, I would suggest Jiko. It is wonderful. Our food was delicious and it is a beautiful setting. That said, I am not sure it is worth 2 TS credits.
Have Fun

Is it really more cost effective to pay OOP for HDDR or to use the two credits? I quess it depends on what you other resturants you choose.

I was very reluctant to try Hoop De Doo. The food at signature restaurants is definitely a million times better.... but cannot compete with the fun and hilarious laughter. Our waitress was great -- kept the beer coming, joked with us non-stop, slammed buckets of fried chicken on our table as part of the show.... etc...... Don't expect fine dining here..... but the food wasn't bad either. All in all, I'd do it again. I'd say all the seats were good here... We were on the deluxe dining plan so we had a lot of meal credits to use... we used the dining plan for this but paid out of pocket for the Spirit of Aloha show to get Category 1 - I'd say cat. 1 is more important at Aloha for good seats.

I think you have to decide what's more important - the actual food or the entertainment.

I personally would go with a Signature. Obviously this is the pick if you're more concerned about the actual food. Although you could always try to book Cali Grill during Wishes!

If you're really undecided, I'd say flip a coin. I always have a hard time choosing which places to make my ADR's for cause I want to try EVERYTHING!

If you really enjoy good food - do the signature restaurant - the food is miles beyond any other food you'll have at Disney in my opinion. I had the same question when I planned my trip with my mom - HDDR or Signature meal - I basically chose the Signature meal because we couldn't get the time we wanted for HDDR - but I can say that meal was the best of our trip - a highlight - something I am so glad we did and well worth the 2 credits. We went to Artist Point - it was fabulous!:goodvibes
