Yeah so, I realize these are 2 completely different experiences. Reservations are for me, my husband and 2 boys (5 and 6).
We've never been to either and we are staying at the Contemporary. With reservations opening up today for HDD I am considering switching my CG res to this.
Things to consider:
We have a 5:30 res at CG so not prime fireworks time (though i realize I could go back later).
Price would be the same for both since we would book Cat 1 for HDD.
My boys would prob enjoy HDD more than CG.
My husband and I would really enjoy CG but would have a lot of fun at HDD too. Ahhh! Any advice?

I would do HDD. Don't get me wrong, I like CG, but HDD is more of an "experience", especially with children. Along with HDD, you can do pony rides at the stables which are right next door to the theater and play on the playground. I think I would do HDD, play at Ft. W. and then go back to CR to see the fireworks from the 4th floor observation deck - best of both worlds! You could always try to get a seat in the CR lounge during another part of your trip to see the fireworks from that deck.

With the young kids HDD would be a better choice. Hanging out in FW at night is always fun!:dog2:pixiedust:

I am going to play devil's advocate. If you look just at the food aspect, I'd go for CG. Better food, better value, as you don't have to pay a set price for your kids.

(Mostly kidding. HDDR is a lot of fun and kids that age would be pretty mesmerized).

I would take the family to HDDR and I would put the kids in the babysitting room and have dinner with just adults on another night. :)

I agree with HDD... It's a unique experience. We've taken toddlers to CG (twice) when we've had early settings and enjoyed it, but now that they are 4, we will take them to HDD because the show is a lot of fun!

Definitely wouldn't take kids that age to Cali--would be pretty boring for them. My wife and I were there in May, just the 2 of us (kids at Lilo's Playhouse), and there was a family seated near us who had two youngish kids. Kids looked bored out of their minds. Food was certainly delish, though, for us!
