I have booked the Hoop de doo for my son's 6th birthday dinner (really wanted chef mickey, but all full up). I have heard that older kids may 'get' the humour more than younger, has anyone been there with a 5/6 year old that could tell me how they liked it? We also had to take cat. 3 seating (sides of balcony). Anyone who can comment on how this seating is? Do any of the performers come up there at all, or will DS get any special attention for his birthday? I want it to be fun for him, and for him to feel special on his birthday. We had considered paying out of pocket, but really, that is a LOT of $$ for our party of 7, we will be farther ahead I think to pay for our sci-fi lunch.....Thanks in advance!!!

I think he will love it! Last september we went and had a 7 year old boy and a 5 year old boy in our group and the boys both really liked the show... while he may not get all of the jokes, there is definitely physical comedy that he will appreciate... we also had level three tickets.. up on the balcony on the right side of the stage looking down.

It was ok and after I realized that you just turn your seats around to look down it was fine... we had some performers come up where we were and talk to us and since DH and I were there and were going to be getting married the next day... they put the spotlight on us and told us to kiss!!! If your son doesn't get embarrassed or scared, you should tell them it's his birthday and I'm sure they will do something special... maybe but him in the spotlight or at least have everyone say happy birthday to him.

good luck! :thumbsup2

I booked it, but I'm unsure as well. Is it typical WDW humor (silly, lots of puns)? How boisterous does it get?

I've grown up hearing how great this show is, but I've never gone myself.

There are a few HDDR clips on "YouTube." There is one from Dec 1997 which I realize was quite some time ago. Some things may have changed since then but the 1997 clip has a great view of the seating. One of the clips shows one of the CM at the balcony singing/talking to a visitor (you have to watch a while to see it). There are a few shorter clips that will give you an idea of what to expect. Good luck.
