Hook 'em Horns!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!

You do realize that is also part of the BCS equation? Three unbeaten teams can't face each other. When that happens, BCS matchups are based on opinions, not facts.

Actually the BCS equation is made up of the Coaches' Poll, the Harris Interactive Poll and an average of 6 computer rankings. The AP still crowns a national champion, which may be different from the BCS champion.

That's what makes it up now, but in the year you're referring to, the AP poll was part of the equation. :)

At least that's not the case this year.

Final rankings are (1) Texas (2) USC (3) Penn State (4) Ohio State.

GREAT game, as was the Orange Bowl the night before.

Leinert DID come across very badly, a sore loser. He gambled away a sure-fire first round NFL draft pick last year, solely for the purpose of coming back to win another National Championship. Of course he's disappointed, but he's a big boy who seriously needs to learn some tact and diplomacy, like that shown by his coach, Pete Carroll.

Instant replay review is a double-edged sword. Yes, it can help confirm iffy calls, but when it is used excessively, it can disrupt the momentum of the game, and I think it came close to doing that last night. The no-review of Vince Young's knee hitting the ground as he pitched out the ball WAS baffling, but there were other baffling non-reviews in other games as well (here in Iowa, we are still puzzled about Chad Greenway being called offsides during Iowa's onside kick attempt late in the Outback Bowl). And Reggie Bush's pitch-out attempt, which resulted in a costly fumble, was totally perplexing, and obviously unexpected and un-practiced.

But in the end, it was Vince Young's night. He clearly outshone the TWO vaunted Heisman winners playing for USC. He scrambled, cut across the field, and made the big plays when he had to. It was one of the best quarterback performances in a clutch situation that we've seen in a long time.

Congrats to the Texas Longhorns!

The AP/Harris change just occurred this year.

Isn't this really just splitting hairs? The BCS is still seen by some as a better solution than crowning a national champion based solely on AP or whatever poll votes.

I know, that's why I said that the year USC shared the title with LSU, the AP poll was part of the BCS equation. :)

The ground cant cause a fumble BUT when you make a reception you have to maintain control of the ball even when you hit the ground.

And he did. Even the announcer said that he hit the ground with the ball in control. But when on his 2nd or 3rd bounce (Gotta admit he hit the ground pretty HARD) the ball just went 'boink' and out it came. I was watching that going "***? Did he try lateraling it like Bush or what?!?" :rotfl2:

Eeeh...we could argue about this and the knee on the turf thing all day and it won't change the fact that it was a great game!

I hate the BCS. That's all I really have to say. Carry on.

And don't give me the bowl game argument, a playoff system could be incorporated using existing bowl sites. Blah blah blah. I hate every year that the BCS works, because it has just dodged another bullet and it lets it remain for that much longer.

No arguments here. I think the only people who like the BCS system are University Presidents.

Hi bengalbelle!!

I thought about you as we watched (actually, winced through) LSU totally demolishing Miami in the Peach Bowl this year. Congrats on a great season, especially after all the trauma and tragedy in Louisiana this year.

Sadly, our Iowa Hawkeyes did not fare so well this year . . .
