Honolulu Airport: Alamo or Hertz?

I have a vehicle reserved through Alamo and Hertz for an upcoming stay at Aulani. About the same price for the same size vehicle. I have to make a decision soon and cancel one of them. I understand Hertz is at the actual airport and Alamo is a short shuttle ride away. I thought Hertz would be easier and quicker since it is at the airport? However, I have read many negative recent reviews about Hertz at the airport location in terms of wait times and customer service. I prefer our vacation not start with a 1-2 hour wait in a rental car line like many of the reviews are saying.

Can you easily walk to the Hertz location without taking a shuttle?

Is the shuttle ride from the airport to Alamo quick and easy?

Would anyone recommend one car rental company at this airport over the other (Alamo vs. Hertz)?

I can't comment on Hertz...but we typically use Alamo when we are in HNL. The shuttle ride is not long. Avoid the line inside and head to the machines inside on the left (you have to have a confirmation # to use them). You can pay there and take the print out outside and they let you pick your car.

We had a very long wait at the Dollar location in Kahului that was miserable. If you opt to go with Hertz, try and pre-pay for the rental...chances are you can get out of there quicker because there is usually a separate line if you paid already.

Girimama- were you reserved directly with Alamo or with a service like Costco? Are you part of their rewards or can everyone use these kiosks? Sounds like a great tip!

We ended up using a Costco reservation this trip. We were not part of a rewards program. As long as you have a confirmation #,you should be good to go.
