A girlfriend of mine is taking her DH and DD13 to Hong Kong in September holidays for a week and she asked me if I felt that 2 days was enough at HKDL.

She is mad for disney, last Christmas went to DL and WDW on the same trip, went to DL the year before, you get the picture, but she is not the uber planner that all of us Diser's are :lmao:.

So my questions are:-

1. Is 2 days enough to see everything

2. What are the must sees

3. Is there anywhere good to eat

4. Should they stay near HKDL or just travel there each day

Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks.

I haven't been there - but my (and heidispidi's!) brother went there in May with his wife and 2 boys (ages 10 and 7). They felt that 1 day was plenty - in fact they went on some things more than once. I'm not sure however if they went on the weekend or during the week. And also they are not Disney nuts (and SIL doesn't go on rides) - so this may have had an impact on their time.

Ahem...I did write a Trip report....
Shushh also went there just recently

- 1 day was enough....so yes...2 is enough
- If they stay on a MTR line then travelling is fine. There is only Disney to see at the HKDL hotels.
- lots of food options
- must sees...in 2 days you'll see all of it twice

We were there in 2006 and had done just about everything by mid-afternoon. I just didn't think that it felt very "Disney". :confused3

We stayed in the city and took a bus there and a cab back to the hotel - and it was great to be able to go out into the craziness of Hong Kong that night - you wouldn't be able to do that if you were staying in a Disney hotel - it's way too far away.

Not a lot of great rides - there is no Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion, they have Tomorrowland but that is probably my least favourite "land" at any Disney park, so I was honestly disappointed in HK Disney. :sad1:

On the other hand, we spent 4 1/2 days in Disneyland in 2009 and could have spent another week - and we have 12 nights in WDW coming up and I'm afraid that it won't be long enough!

Just my opinion, I hope that they love their holiday

With a 13 year old, I think one will day will be plenty. I am assuming that they will try to go a weekday. Unless they specifically want to try the Disney hotels, it is actually very easy to get to by MTR. We stayed nowhere near it and managed to get there quite comfortably even with 3 little ones in tow. Good thing about Hong Kong is that everything is also signed in English so its pretty easy to work things out.

As for food, plenty of options about, especially Asian. We thought it was reasonably priced and quite nice.

The "Must" sees are the shops! I love the unique merchandise that they have eg Mickey nail clippers on a key chain. I like their space mountain, and the shows are of course fabulous.

They need to remember that this is Disney catered to an Asian market so expectations need to be adjusted somewhat...

Thanks so much everyone. I have forwarded on everyone's comments and advice. I really appreciate you helping out.

Agreed, 2 days is too much for HKDL...there just isn't much to do there, until they open the 3 new lands soon

Just thought I'd add it's all about expectations...
Don't go EXPECTING WDW or Disneyland...because it isn't
It is a unique Disney experience. It is more Disney than Tokyo Disneysea...yet somehow people don't complain about it....because of the amazing shows and rides.

I went for a unique Disney experience and did not go expecting WDW and Disneyland so I had a good time and enjoyed it. I get a bit tired about people whinging about it...
It's a shame it started so small...and I'd never make a special trip to HK for it...but go for what it is and enjoy it!

It's quite easy to catch the train from the city to DL. Maybe a 30 minute trip max. We went early and had the character breakfast at the Disneyland Hotel. Breakfast was amazing, all the usual western fare, plus chinese, indian, japanese breakfast items.

I agree with the others 1 day was plenty to do everything.

:wave2: I've been taking a Disney break but I'm back because I'm starting to plan our trip to HK Disneyland! I was planning 4-5 days in HK with 2 days at Disney, but after reading this thread and Shushh's TR, I'm now thinking maybe we will only need one :confused3. I'll have to do a little more research....

Looking forward to catching up with everyone :).
