My fiance and I are going on our honeymoon to WDW in July and staying at A-SS. (I love the acronymn!) I'm just wondering if we should mention it is our honeymoon on check-in. Do they do anything special? When I made the ressie online, I put in the comment section that this will be our honeymoon. Just curious.

It doesn't hurt to mention your honeymoon when you make Priority Seating reservations, as well. Usually it's nothing, but sometimes you get a little extra attention.

By all means let everyone know it's your honeymoon. We stayed at the Polynesian for our honeymoon, and there was a bottle of champagne on ice with glasses when when checked in. Granted, there were only 3 Disney resorts back then, but you never know. Also, during our 15th anniversary, we had dinner in the restaurant in Cinderella's Castle (restaurant name escapes me right now), and they gave us a gift of two champagne glasses.:earsboy:

My sister stayed at All Star Sports on her Sept 2003 honeymoon mainly because it was her husbands first time to WDW and he LOVES sports. We had told them ahead of time it was their honeymoon hoping they would get special treatment.
Upon check-in, they were told that they were given a king size bed in the football building. This is a far walk from the main building. They were not told that the king size bed ONLY comes with a handicap shower...this is a shower, no tub, and when she took a shower all of the water went out onto the floor in the bathroom! Her husband was upset becuase he didn't feel this hotel had a 'Honeymoon' feeling to it. So they went back to the check-in to see if they could at least move to a double bed room. They CM was nasty and told them they were all sold out. (Keep in mind they had on their Mickey and Minnie wedding hats).
My sister called me crying saying her honeymoon just started and it was horrible! So I had to call the All Star Sports manager to see what I could do as she was soo upset. He was also nasty to me! I called my favorite resort, Port Orleans Riverside, and spoke to the manager their and explained my sisters dilemma. She was so nice and had my sisters reservation transferred to POR. I called my sister and about 2 hours later they were all checked into POR. The manager met them at the checkin desk and kept apologizing to them! She gave them a riverview room and a voucher to eat at Boatwrights...with NO limit! They had a great dinner and absolutly LOVED this resort! It is a very romatic resort! Beware....while All Stars are nice resorts they seem to not be honeymoon friendly and not very romantic....If you can afford it try to upgrade to a moderate.......
Whatever you decide you will have a wonderful honeymoon! Congrats!

My dh and I honeymooned at POR and then later took a trip to POP. I think you'll have a great time at any resort - just don't go into AS-Sports expecting it to be super-romantic and you won't have any of the problems gwtw mentioned.

But... on to your questions. We mentioned on our ressies and all our priority seatings that it was our honeymoon. Here's what we got for it (keep it mind it all varies, you may get nothing or you may get more):

* Bottle of champagne on flight to Orlando
* Autographed pic of Minnie and Mickey (in wedding attire) left in our room
* Free desserts at two restaurants
* Free souveneir mug at one restaurant
* Front and center seats for both dinner shows
* Chance to ride alone on some rides (ie Splash Mountain - makes for great pics)

Keep in mind we also got the bride and groom pins and wore the bride and groom Mickey ears.

And remember... even if you don't get any freebies... you're still in the happiest place on earth... on your honeymoon!!

gwtw--

I've stayed in the football building at AS-S twice, and I'm sorry, but you can't get much closer to the main building than that. Even the furthest room is only a three minute walk.

To the OP, I wouldn't count on anything special. The value resorts don't generally offer special perks to honeymooners.

Maybe work with the WDW forist in advance to have something special delivered to your room one day.

Best wishes to the two of you!

Anne

Thank you all for your advice. We certainly aren't expecting anything special. We are happy just to be at Disney. My future husband and I aren't the type that need people to create magic for us. We would have fun no matter where we were. We will be wearing our mickey/minnie wedding ears. I just thought I'd ask because it doesn't hurt to mention its our honeymoon.

As I was reading gwtw's post, my first thought was that the football section is the closest to the main building - glad to have that confirmed.

My advice would be to ask for the section farthest from the main building. We stayed in the football section. Busy, loud, hated it and said we would never do a value resort again. This June we stayed at the ASMusic with our son's HS band, in a section far from the main building, and loved it! It was quiet (except for our kids) and there never seemed to be other people around. I think most people ask to be near the food court. If you can stand a 3 minute walk, I would go for the quiet area for a honeymoon trip.

I like the idea of having WDW send something special to your room.

Have fun!!
