DS and fiancee are getting married May 6, 2006.

They are trying to think of somewhere to go on their honeymoon. We live in South Carolina. They do not want to fly anywhere.

Can anyone think of nice honeymoon places to drive to up to 600 or so miles from South Carolina? Much to my DISmay, they do not want to go to Walt Disney World. They are Universal lovers. It breaks my heart.

They are having trouble deciding, so I thought I'd ask for suggestions on the DIS boards. Thanks!!!

By the way they are both 21, so if anyone has suggestions, keep that age in mind. I doubt they want to go somewhere too boring, which is why I have a hard time at 44 trying to suggest honeymoon ideas for them.

How about Key West? I wouldn't recommend coming too far north - it's still pretty cold up here then.

Thanks for the reply. I m starting to think they should just put a bunch of names of places in a hat and draw one out. LOL

What about Charleston or is that too "old" for them? Do they not want to fly because of the expense or they just don't like it? How far would it be to drive to New York or Boston?

It also depends on what kind of honeymoon they want. Some people want to go to a fun-filled exotic place. We considered Paris. Then we thought about how exhausted we would be after a week of wedding preparation then the full day of wedding stuff. We decided we wanted to go someplace where we could chill out and relax. We didn't want to feel like we needed to go out and be tourists non-stop to "get our money's worth" which is what would have happened if we'd gone to Paris. You don't pay all that $$$ to fly over there just to lie around in the hotel room. :teeth:

We chose Gatlinburg, as we'd been there many times and so we didn't HAVE to go see anything if we didn't want to. We rented a secluded chalet and there were a couple of days we didn't leave it. ::yes:: It was wonderful to lounge in the hot tub or curl up in front of the fire. We did go out to a couple of nice restaurants and such, but it was a very laid-back trip. We got to know each other better and got to "recover" from the wedding - lol :)

Some couples do want a more fast-paced experience - everyone's different.

We chose Gatlinburg too. (Actually we had a destination wedding there, and stayed for the honeymoon) DH had been there, but I hadn't. We rented a cabin and it was sooooooooo nice! It wouldn't be too far for them to drive either.

How about Hilton Head or Outer Banks?

The Outer Banks are really nice if they want the beach. They could rent a beach house. I went last summer and did a lighthouse tour, and drove to see all the lighthouses along the outer banks.
