i was about to try to get quotes for my honeymoon in may and i am not sure what to put for my fiance's name for the documents. i figure it will be easiest to use her maiden name since she won't have any id with my last name. anyone have any thoughts. thanks.

I say us her maiden name. It may cause too many problems to put your name when all of her ID would have her maiden name on it. I know that is what I would do.

Typical advice is to use the maiden name for a least a month after the wedding since it takes about that long to get everything settled... ID, SSN, credit cards, etc. It is always safer to do it in the maiden name since you can always wait to do it, but you can't speed it up.

I have everything in my maiden name for this reason, all my ID cards etc would be in my maiden name as I wouldn't be changing to my husbands name until after we had tied the knot :)

I have this same question, except I am the bride.. So, I should use my maiden name, and not my married name?

My FH says that maybe I should see if I can hyphenate it. Or he said maybe I could try to get my ID one day early.

Anymore ideas? Or should I just go with my maiden name?

Definitly go with your maiden name. Especially if your honeymoon involves any kind of air travel. Technically the name on your tickets has to exactly match the name on your ID. Often times they'll overlook small details, like a slight misspelling (Glen instead of Glenn for instance) but it's entirely at the airline's - and the ticket agent's - discretion. Get someone who's in a bad mood and you could be in for trouble.

Your best bet is to put it in your maiden name, unless your honeymoon is several months after your wedding. If that's the case then you should have your updated ID by then.

Now since I'm not changing my name I'm not entirely clear on the exact process, and I'm assuming there's some variance from place to place, but as far as I know you have to actually have your marriage certificate in order to do the ID change don't you? I mean what if something happens the day before the wedding and it has to be postponed - if you were able to process stuff before the marriage then you'd have a bunch of ID with a married name when you weren't married yet? If you do in fact have to wait until after the wedding to get all the paperwork processed for ID changes, then just think of how quickly the bureaucratic process works, and imagine how long it could take for the new ID to come.

speaking as a former travel agent who arranged many honeymoons for couples, if you will not have your ID in your married name when you board that plane, use your maiden name! typically, the bride doesn't have time to get her new ID's taken care of before her honeymoon...use the maiden name if that's the case...

best wishes!!
