Day 1 – First Day Fun

Ah, finally at the Magic Kingdom. I’m positively beaming. (Seriously though, what is up with the WL bus switching to an All Stars every time we take it to MK – the All Star bus stops are much farther away than the WL stop :( ) Fortunately the lines for security and turnstiles are small this lovely Sunday afternoon. We didn’t have any problem with the finger scan thing but so many people seemed to find it confusing. I thought those signs were pretty informative – just follow the steps 1-2-3.

We stopped on Main Street to get our photopass and had some pictures taken by Matthew who we would see several more times that week. Unfortunately, only one of the 5 or 6 he took ended up in our account. It was one of us kissing with the castle in the background. The one where Tink is supposed to appear didn’t make it. And of course I forgot to hand him my camera so we really don’t have any shots in front of the castle at all. We ended up doing very few photopass pictures anyway.

Since the plane had arrived late, we didn’t have time to do anything before lunch so we headed right over to Liberty Tree Tavern. There was a long check in line which we discovered was full of people trying to make ADRs for dinner or meals later in the week, even at other restaurants. I wish there was one person checking people in and one person making ADRs. We didn’t wait too long to be seated – probably less than 10 minutes.

When we arrived at our table there was a little heart made of the mickey confetti waiting for us.

Content was our server, while he wasn’t very talkative (perhaps b/c it seemed his English wasn’t great) he was good at everything else including getting us refills and clearing away empty plates. Since we were on the premium plan you will see a lot of food in these reviews. If the food is all you are interested in, I’ll be posting a dining review soon.

DH had fried cheese, pot roast, and chocolate liberation cake (without the raspberry sauce) and birch beer. I had vegetable beef soup, pilgrims feast, liberty shortcake and birch beer. Everything tasted just as yummy and I remembered it. DH did forget to ask for no onion straws on his pot roast so he had to pick them off. We also didn’t realize that if you wanted rolls you had to ask for them but that was no big deal. Content also brought out a cupcake to celebrate our honeymoon and one of the other servers rang the bell and announced the occasion.

Finally, time to get on some rides. We did Pirates of the Caribbean with only 10 min wait. Later in the week we would wish the wait was this long in order to enjoy the cool, dark surroundings. We headed over to frontierland and grabbed a fastpass for Splash Mountain since the posted wait was 40min. In order to kill some time we hopped on the railroad and rode it all the way around. I really like the train and it’s such a relaxing trip around the park. Since it still wasn’t FP time we waited 20 min for Big Thunder Mountain and got to sit up front. I know it’s not that fast up front but we like riding up there anyway. We waited only 5min in the FP line for Splash and ended up front there too (didn’t ask for it but got it anyway). We always get soaked on this ride yet so many other people walked off dry. Next was the haunted mansion with only a 5 min wait. I’m so glad we know where the “doorless” room doors are so we aren’t caught in that crush of people trying to get to the ride line. I’m pretty sure we rode Small World after this (I know it was sometime this day).

I really like the clock tower and all the dolls looked so pretty. I do miss the clown holding the “help” sign. I always thought that was so funny. Our last stop for the day was Philharmagic. There were only 4 people in line in front of us and the sign said 5 min till next show. I guess that meant 5 min until they let you into the holding area by the theater doors. We waited another 5 min there before getting into the theater. I think there was about a half full theater and plenty of people used this as an excuse to not move all the way (or even more than half way) down the rows. It’s 3D people, you’ll see the same thing no matter where you sit. I really had wanted to ride Pooh (he is my favorite character you know) but by the time we go to Fantasy Land the line was at least a 30 min wait and since the park closed at 6 and we had Hoop Dee Doo reservations at 7:15we didn’t want to be rushed since it was already at least 5pm.

One thing I noticed while we were in the park was that since we were wearing the bride and groom ears so many people, not just castmembers, kept telling us congratulations. That was really sweet – it meant a lot to us that ordinary people were wishing us joy.

After waiting less than 10 min for the bus we headed to Roaring Forks to get our refillable mugs and got stuck in Jenn’s line (although the next day her nametag said something different). Wow, she really needed some register training – and I’m not talking about maybe being confused by the dining plan or us using a gift card, I mean basic cash or credit transactions. I think it took over 15min for the 4 people in front of us to pay. Finally they opened another register but the people behind us moved over there and left us with Jenn. Needless to say, we confused her with our gift card and she had to get the manager to tell her to press the “giftcard” button to use the giftcard. When we finally got back to the room we had only about 15 min before we needed to leave for HDDR. WL had delivered a card and balloons to our room in celebration of our honeymoon.

Now we're ready to go, but wait, the message light on the phone is flashing. Didn’t we already get the message about picking up our HDDR tickets? This one was different – we were told we needed to be in our room and have ID ready so they could deliver something to us. After DH explained we had to leave for dinner in a few minutes, they promised to come right up. Okay, it wasn’t “right up” but it didn’t make us too much behind schedule. The reason for the ID was that our travel agent had sent us a basket from the WDW Florist containing champagne.

What a sweet gesture (not that we plan on using a TA again since we like to have access to our reservation – we used this one b/c she is a friend’s mom) and the TA’s son got a call to thank her for ordering it for us.

Leaving our ears in the room (didn’t want to block anyone’s view), we head to the boats. I know there is a bus to FW but we didn’t realize it dropped off at pioneer hall and we didn’t want to end up at the other bus stop. I think our boat went to the CR first but I love riding on those little boats anyway. We checked in with plenty of time to spare and skipped the photo. It started to rain just as they started seating us so we all scurried up to the porch to wait to get in. Our table was all the way up front on the right hand side – just right of the piano and banjo player. I sat closest to the center of the room and could see fine, but DH had to move his chair to see around the edge of the wall and around the musicians. We had asked for french fries and mac and cheese instead of the mexicorn and beans. Oh no, they have corn on the cob!! We made sure to change our substitution for our Sat night visit. DH really enjoyed the chicken while I devoured the ribs. I really don’t like ribs but these were great! Of course we raised our hands when they asked about honeymooners and danced while they sang. No matter how many times I go, I just love this corny show.

Back on the boat and back home to WL where we changed into swim suits, filled our mugs and headed to the hot tub at the quiet pool. So relaxing and we talked to another man from PA. There certainly were lots of people from PA at Disney while we were there. DH then wanted to play in the quiet pool for a while. Throughout the day he kept asking me if we would be back to the room by 10 and which days we would be back by 10. I figured this had to do with the choc covered strawberries he had ordered for me. I knew he ordered them but had no idea when they were coming and I assumed they had to be delivered by 10. Earlier in the day he had asked me to step out of the room so he could call room service to double check on the order since we had arrived. Well it was after 10 when we got back to the room so I figured no strawberries tonight. Much to my surprise there was a knock at the door right after I got out of the shower (and was cleaning up the flood from the shower stall) and a tray of 6 tuxedo strawberries and a carafe of hot chocolate were delivered.

My DH is the best!! And he told me I would be getting them again sometime during the trip – at least I wouldn’t be fooled by 10pm deadline.

Finally off to bed for some much needed rest before an early breakfast and Adventures at Epcot

I've just enjoyed reading this and feel very romantic! It's our silver wedding in January so I love to hear about newly weds and all that kind of slushy stuff :love2:

I loved your review! My FI and I are taking our honeymoon in WDW, too, in November, so I'm excited about the Bride and Groom ears. I think we're also going to stop in city hall to get the pins, b/c i'm sure I won't be able to make him wear the ears for long  Keep the trip reports coming!

Congrats on your marrige. Good report. :Pinkbounc

Yeah Stephanie! :Pinkbounc

A great first day! :goodvibes Those tuxedo strawberries look yummy! What a nice thing for your DH to do!! :goodvibes

Looking forward to Adventures in Epcot..... :goodvibes

brandt79 - we also got the pins from city hall. We had planned on getting them right after we got into MK but the line was really long with all the people buying MNSSHP tickets so we stopped on our way out of the park and there was no wait at all. DH pinned his to his hat and I wore mine on the strap of my backpack.

Thanks everyone for reading my trip report.
