Our cake lady for our wedding has a "honeymoon cake" that we're getting. It's a small heart shaped cake in a tin that we take on our honeymoon. Would something like this be allowed to be brought aboard on the ship?

Absolutely. DCL will let you bring on just about anything. You can even bring your own wine/champagne if you want.

Make sure you tell everyone (waiter, room steward, photographers, officers, etc) that it's your honeymoon. Pick up DCL honeymmon buttons at Guest Services when you board and wear them the whole cruise. You will get another cake and the waiters will sing to you at dinner.

If you just can't get enough cake, I also recommend ordering the cake of the day from room service, it's a different cake everyday and free, but tip is appreciated.

I don't know if I would say absolutely. DCL's policy is:

Homemade, pre-cooked or other perishable items plus any open snack containers cannot be brought on board. Limitations on permitted food items are directly related to concerns for food safety and contamination prevention.

They do let on pre-packaged sealed food items but your cake being in a tin may make it a no-go. It's a nice thought but if it were me I wouldn't bring it.

I would doubt it. Cruise ships are notorious for food-borne illnesses spreading and a primary source of concern would be any "home-made" items or food that is not prepackaged. So while they allow beverages in sealed containers, they may also reasonably allow anything from crackers to Twinkies to bags of chips. A 1 year old cake probably would not be permitted, only due to food safety concerns. I'd say eat it the night before you leave to celebrate your anniversary cruise and enjoy the free cakes on the ship.

Maybe the cake lady can seal the tin with a tape product and a professional seal, so it can be considered a sealed package.

Id call DCL and ask to speak to a supervisor, and explain the situation. A lot of times, the person who picks up the phone isnt as up to date as the spervisors. They can also call the ship, to try and work something out, like posted above with the tape and seal.
Id asked about bringing our cake off, and was told no that it has to be a sealed original container. Tupperware wont count.

With all of the food, and honeymoon cake (celebration cake in the dining room if yoou let them know it's yoour honeymoon) you will get onboard, I would suggest asking your cake lady to hold off on making yours until you can pick it up when you get home. I took a Disney Cruise for my honeymooon, and we had thought about bringing some wedding cake on. Looking back on it, so glad we didn't even try since I don't think I could have eaten another bite.

Yummy- I didn't know about the cake of the day room service. One more fun thing to add to my list. Thanks:woohoo:

I would doubt it. Cruise ships are notorious for food-borne illnesses spreading...

Cruise ship illness is mostly Norovirus, that is spread person-to-person, by contact with contaminated fecal material or vomit, or by contamation during food preparation.

It you pass the health questionnaire, you and your food will be allowed on-board. Bring the cake in your carry-on luggage.

If the cake is contaminated, only you and your spouse are to fear. I doubt that you will be sharing it with the entire cruise ship!

Just don't take any fresh food or vegetables *OFF* the ship, since they have not been through USDA food inspection process.
