Just a heads up says it could cause a crash.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Honda is recalling about 35,000 Passport sport utility vehicles to inspect brackets on the rear suspension that could detach and lead to a crash.

The recall involves Passports from the 1998-2002 model years and is limited to 21 states and the District of Columbia where road salt is used during the winter.

Honda says the front bracket of the rear suspension lower trailing links could corrode and the bracket could break off from the frame. Honda says a small number of incidents have been reported, but there have been no injuries.

The recall covers SUVs in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

FYI...Honda Passports are rebadged Isuzu Rodeo's...they are not true Honda's.

Well, I suppose it helps me understand the situation a bit more. We've been thinking about buying a Crosstour (which is presumably a "real" Honda) so knowing that Passports are rebadged Isuzus is useful because it makes clear that this recall provides no (negative) insight into Honda reliability as it pertains to the Crosstour.

I think almost all, if not all companies have had recalls of some sort. Just a heads up.

Recall: 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour

Recall: 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour

Honda is recalling over 3,300 2010 Accord Crosstour models due to a problem with the front passenger air bag. Recent testing revealed that the air bag does not meet a portion of the government test regulations of air bag deployment on an unbelted six-year old sized dummy in the front seat. In the event of a crash, a child could be at a greater risk or injury if the air bag deploys. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

We do not recommend that children ride in the front seats until they are at least 13 years old; some states do not allow young children to sit in the front passenger seat. Honda, as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and other safety organizations, make similar recommendations.

Dealers will inspect and replace the airbag if necessary free of charge. Owners can contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or online at www.recalls.honda.com.

Yeah, you really need to (if you're going to consider this sort of thing) get into the business of weighing the various recalls against each other. For example, a recall associated with not meeting a standard on (specifically) an air bag doesn't worry me as much as suspension. It is more immediately critical, imho, to prevent a crash rather than to prevent the failure of an airbag in case of a crash. Of course, then you need to dig into the relative percentages of each thing happening, etc.

Still, it's useful to remember that Passports are Isuzus.

Thanks for the link - my DS drives a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo aka a Honda Passport. I'm going to go check it out.

We are a Honda family, have owned at least one for the past 25 years, we currently have 2 and just a few years ago we had 3 - the biggest issues have been a bad transmission in my 1987 Accord Lxi (gosh I loved that car!)another bad transmission in my 2002 Odyssey van. Both were covered under extended warranties we purchased since we bought the vehicles used, The Accord at 10K and the van at 25K.

We love our Honda's but feel that the older models (mid 80's into the mid 90's) were by far the best years. Our Honda exclusive mechanic agrees with us. That said, in my currently uneducated opinion, a Honda is still one of the best vehicles out there and well worth investing in.
Note: This is purely an opinion, I'm not in the market for car shopping so haven't done any research lately. I just know we have had very good, long lasting relationships with our Honda's (except for the one that was stolen )

I agree! Although as they stated "In the event of a crash, a child could be at a greater risk or injury if the air bag deploys" yes, that could be serious.

I think most all cars companies have had recalls of some sort over the years. When I see something serious I like to post it in case an owner of that vehicle didn't know yet. :)
