Anybody purchased either of these lately? What made you choose one over the other? Did you test drive both?

Was either Mazda or Honda willing to deal on the price?

Thanks for the input.

We looked at both of these almost 1 year ago. Mazda would deal, Honda would not-they were in great demand at that time. I liked the smaller size of the MPV. I think Honda gets better reviews. BUT, after looking around we drove and loved the Honda CRV and ended up with that for me :D ! Totally ditched getting another van! 2 kids and I don't miss my old van one iota.

The Honda is still in great demand. Which car do you see more of on the road? ;) There's a reason.

I want to add that there are sometimes bidding wars to get an Odyssey! Some are known to pay HIGHER than sticker price to get one! I would not do that though! Even the CRV's can be hard to get. We lucked out on ours and even a "tiny deal". Honda has a great reputation, DH says that is all he wants to get for us now ;) !

We looked at both of these last summer and ended up buying the MPV. Overall, I liked the way it handled better than the Honda and personally found it more comfortable. After driving them both, I found the MPV seemed to me to be more responsive, probably because of the smaller size. We drove them back to back (same dealership carries Honda and Mazda) and the Honda just seemed sluggish in comparison. I also think the rear seats in the MPV were easier to re-arrange, fold down, split, remove, etc. So far, I've been very, very pleased with the MPV and my car payments are lower than they would have been with the Honda. :teeth:

As of last summer in our area, the Honda was still very hard to come by and they won't deal at all. They were getting sticker price for them. We actually got lucky when we were looking that they even had one available to test drive. I was told they usually don't even have one available to test drive. I don't need any car that badly!

I have the Madza and my sister has the Odyssey. Both are great and I LOVE my MPV. I've had it for 2 1/2 years and have not had one problem with it. I had two friends who had the older model MPV's and both raved about it. They had no problems with it. I love the flip down seats and the sliding second seat. I love that it is smaller and I can manevour (sp?) it in and out of small parking spots. It is the perfect size for me but I only have two kids. When we travel we just fold down the rear sear and throw our stuff in the back. If we were less lazy we could pack it in the back but I just don't usually bother. The dealer did deal with me. I think that they really wanted the sale. I did not want to pay the payment that the Odyssey would entail and am very happy with the smaller MPV payment. My payment for my MPV is $150 a month cheaper than the payment for the Odyssey. I don't know if things have changed but the one thing I don't have on my MPV is power doors. My sister has those on her Odyssey and they are nice but I have teenagers who can pull their own doors shut. My sister has little ones and I have to admit it is really nice.

Okay about the Odyssey. My sister hates it. She is not the norm and she's a little crazy but she has not been happy with it. She had a Lexus SUV and now this and she liked her Lexus better. The price wasn't that much more either. (she says that the Lexus really had a good deal on a lease). Anyways she says that it is really noisy (I agree that it is noiser than my MPV) and she doesn't like the ride. Too bumpy. Also she thinks that it is too big to drive around everyday but she had a smaller car before.

One more thing about my MPV, I think that it is a little underpowered but I am sure that they upgraded the engine since I bought one. If I were to buy another mini-van I would definately buy another MPV. My kids are teenagers and I hope that my next car will be more sporty but I'm going to keep this car for a long time.

Sorry for the length.
