Hello!!
We are going to Disney in May and I will be pulling my daughter out of K to go on the trip. My question is what do you guys do when you pull your kids out of school for the trip and want it to qualify as an educational trip. We went in October and she journelled every night and took pictures of interesting things she liked and the people she met. We also took maps of each park to share with the class and a treat from one of the countries and did the Duffy, activity around the World Showcase. I would like to do something different this time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

First off, its May, near the end of the school year, and it's K... really I would be all about a fun trip vs focusing on making it have to be educational and assign homework. Mid year or even at the beginning of the school year, sure, but in May everything is in wind down mode as they head into summer vacation.

That said, I think journaling is a great way to create a keepsake and for her to have something to share with the class when she gets back. Every night while on vacation we write down what we did for the day (rides, meals, characters) and then the kids had small 4x6 cards to jot their own notes on. We asked them to make note of their favorite part of the day, favorite ride, favorite meal/snack etc. When we got home we would print up a set of pictures for each of them and place them in a 4x6 flip album with their notes and pictures and they would bring this back to school with them. I know this is similar to what you have done in the past, but at the K level it's really about building reading and writing fluency.

If you wanted to really do something you could look into a behind the seeds tour at the land Epcot and she could journal about that and possibly grow a seed and measure and track it's growth once she got home. Then your building in writing and math (measurement). The YES program would have been fab but there is nothing for her age group in May.

When I took my daughter out of K last year to go to Disney I had her do an ABC photo journal. We took pictures of different items/characters/signs/rides whatever to symbolize all the letters in the alphabet. It was fun and we had to be a little creative when it came to the letter X!
