I am currently booked in a kids suite at the Hyatt Regency Orange County. We ended up getting flights a day earlier than we planned and the Hyatt is sold out for that night. I tried calling direct and 3rd party sellers, nothing available. I really don't think that I want to stay in a different hotel and move after the 1st night, so I am looking at other options.

One that came up is the Homewood Suites Anaheim main gate. It looks to be in about the same place as the Hyatt, so we aren't getting any closer and is a little bit more money. Does anyone have any opinions on this hotel? There is also room at the Hilton Convention Center, which gets us closer, but is a regular hotel room.

TIA

I have stayed there a few times. It was under renovation when I was there a few months ago. You get a full hot breakfast every day. It's nice to have the separate bedroom if you have different sleep schedules in your group. My last stay there was pretty bad, though. Room wasn't ready until after 5:00pm ( I needed to change for dinner). When I got to my room close to 5:30, it still wasn't nearly ready. Some parents took all the food when I went through the food line in the morning. They had trays filled with everything, probably for other people in their room who didn't want to come down, but the food wasn't being restocked at that point because it was closing in 20 minutes. While things like that can happen at any hotel, the staff at this hotel didn't care and weren't sorry about anything.

We stayed at the homewood 3 weeks ago and really enjoyed our stay.
We came back to our room most days around 1-2 and our room was ready every time. No prob with breakfast but we went as soon as it opened. We utilized the free dinner 3 nights and it was decent. 1-soup & salad. 2- hamburgers & hotdogs 3- pasta & bread.
We walked next door & used Toy Story shuttle.
Room was clean and quiet. Will likely stay there again.

Homewood Suites "Maingate" is not the same hotel you stayed in. The one calling itself "Maingate" is further away from Disneyland in Garden Grove. It's only about a little over a mile away, but a much older hotel. I believe the Toy Story parking lot is the mid point between the hotel and the park.

Correction: Google maps shows it to be a little over 2 miles away.

How long ago was it that you stayed there? Did you use the shuttle?

My last stay there was in January. I didn't use the shuttle because I get parking with my AP. I actually may be staying there tomorrow night. I am still deciding between staying there and the Hampton Inn. The Hampton is a tad bit closer to the parks and basically offers all the same stuff. I use hhonors points, so I'll book whichever takes the least amount of points. Hampton has regular rooms and suites and has the full hot breakfast buffet each morning.

Thank you. If you do decide to stay at Homewood I would love an update on the hotel after your trip. :)

We stayed there a couple of times. The last time was in 2013. We really love it, but it's a few hundred more than other options, so we can't justify the cost, so we stay in other places now. We really enjoyed the breakfasts, and always took advantage of the free dinner Monday through Thursday. It was never anything super great, but it was free, and that saved us some money.

As far as the shuttle goes, it was a bit of a pain. We usually got out there early enough in the morning that we were one of the firsts in line, so we were sure to get on it. Coming home at night was pretty bad, though. It would fill up, so a lot of times you would have to wait for the next shuttle. And if you weren't out early enough in the morning, you might find yourself waiting that time too. The shuttle experience could have changed in the last 4 years, but that was our experience the two times we stayed there.
