I'm curious on others opinion of this hotel as well. I have reservations for the family at this location Feb 18-27 (President's week )
I've read good and some bad, so I'm a bit nervous. I usually love staying at Homewood Suites in other parts of the country, but I've read the rooms at LBV need renovating.
Anyone know how far Dowtown Disney is from the HS LBV? Walking distance (a mile or so)?
I've stayed at the Homewood Suites LBV location once before. It (and quite a few other hotels) are located off of Palm Parkway. The location is great --- not far from Downtown Disney. There are plenty of restaurants nearby (including Cici's --$3.99 pizza buffet!), and a Winn Dixie is just up the street on #535.
I found this place to be very nice. The room was clean and comfortable, and there is a small kitchenette. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful and there is a place to buy theme park tickets across from the front desk. We did not use the pool during our stay, so I can't comment on that. The free breakfast is great! There were muffins, bagels, cereals, milk, juices, coffee, and hot eggs and sausages. I think they also had waffles---the frozen, reheatable kind to use in the toaster. The breakfast area is also nice and roomy. The tables aren't too close together, so you don't feel crowded. I think there is a scheduled Disney transportation, but we didn't use this, so again, I can't comment. It's very close to the WDW Downtown Disney area though. I just always drove that way to get to the parks, although someone here probably knows a shortcut. I just found it easier to go towards DTD and then follow the signs to the parks from there.
I would definitely stay there again, and I think it's a great value. You can always go the back way to Universal via #535 (Apopka-Vineland Rd.) to Sand Lake Rd., then get on Turkey Lake Rd. and go straight to Universal. Lots less traffic this way!
I don't think you can go wrong at this place---that's my honest opinion.
I just checked, and that rate looks very good to me. The best I could find would be a AAA rate of about $116/night. I'm not sure how many are in your party, but remember this place can sleep 6 with the sleeper sofa, and has 2 tv's, and a kitchenette. The location is good, too. Just for comparison, you might want to check the Country Inn and Suites that is in Lake Buena Vista, just up the street. There is also a Springhill or Staybridge Suites (can't remember which one).
We stayed at Homewood Suites LBV about three years ago and were very pleased. They have a good complimentary breakfast with some hot food as well as bagels, muffins and the like. The suites are much nicer than some of the other suite hotels we've stayed in (i.e. Quality Suites, Amerisuites). The layout is roomier. You get a full size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, dishwasher and full size sink, not wet bar size. You have a two seater breakfast area. The living area has a full size sofa bed, coffee table and recliner (comfy) with its own TV/VCR combo. I believe we had two queen size beds in the bedroom, but I could be wrong. They may have only been doubles. Another TV is in the bedroom. Bathroom sink is separate from toilet/tub area. The pool is nothing special but my kids enjoyed it just the same.
We were very pleased with the location. You're most likely aware of the LBV convenience to Walt Disney World, but you can actually make a right out of the Homewood Suites driveway and follow Palm Parkway/Turkey Lake Road right up to the back entrance of Universal Studios and IOA without ever hitting the traffic on I-4. Depending on your hour of travel this can be a big
plus.
Enjoy your stay. I'm sure you'll be pleased.
(BTW, my memory is not really this good I copied most of this from a review I had posted a couple of years back and just searched for.)
We stayed there 10 years ago, because we had 6 people. We brought our niece to help us, so we needed more room. Our travel agent made the arrangements, and we did like it! The pool and hot tub were very nice, and the place was clean and well kept. Much bigger than other hotel suites that we had stayed in. Very close to Disney We paid $110 a night 10 years ago, in February! Hope this helps a little!

The Homewood Suites Lake Buena Vista has only been open for six years, originally opening in Dec. 1998. Perhaps you stayed at the HS off 192 because this one wasn't open 10 years ago.
We were just at this hotel yesterday. I would stay at the hotel again. I think it was a great value at $85.10 for 4 adult & 2 kids. The sleeper sofa is not the most comfortable but then again it is a sleeper sofa. Figment22 and sweet maxine covered most of the details. The 2 beds in the rooms are doubles. And our tv's did not have the VCR combo. As far as for the rooms being run down, mine was not. It is not a new hotel but by no means is it out dated or in need of renovation. There are several suite hotels on the same Palm parkway including Hawthorn suites irght across the street, Hampton Inn, etc. SHopping nearby includes Crossroad shoping center, premier outlets, LBV Factory shotes & a Publix super market. Hotel also has a small fitness center. Hope this helps. Have a great time!
Well, I'm currently in the midst of a 2 night say at the Homewood LBV...
1st the positives:
1. the rooms are nice and big, typical of any other Homewood I've stayed in
2. the hotel is real close to Disney.
3. free broadband (wireless)
4. free breakfast (hot)
and then the negatives:
1. not only is the pool not heated, it's poorly maintaned. Kids wanted to swim today but wisely chose not to after they saw the "green" pool water (with rust stains prsent as well).
2. there is not enough convenient parking when the hotel is full, we got in at 1am last night and literally had to park behind the hotel on the opposite side (they don't connect from the back). Granted the place is packed due to the holiday weekend... but jeesh!
3. the place feels too much like a business hotel. No resort or holiday feel to it at all. We toured POFQ and just being on the grounds felt relaxed and in vacation mode. The same feeling does NOT exist offsite.
All that being said, if you've stayed at a Homewood Suites before, you're not getting anything different here than what you're used to. It's a decent offsite hotel, but I think I'm going to prefer POFQ by a mile.
