We went to a cookout/baby shower last night for Fred Dodd and his wife. There were some people from the Tribune and some Marines and their families...it was very nice.
Anyway, Fred had a copy of the manifest of what will be a book entitled HOMETOWN HEROES. It's being published by the South Bend Tribune and will contain all of the Desert Dispatch articles and the photos taken by Fred while he was embedded with our son's unit. He told us that all of the photos will be in color. Aside from all of the photos we saw in the Tribune during the deployment, this book will probably contain another 500 photos of our local Marines. Each of the Marines will get a copy of the book as a gift from the Tribune - at the Marine Corp Ball in early November. The rest of us will be able to purchase the book at Barnes and Noble, probably by late October. Fred is also going to do an autograph signing at Barnes and Noble. We thumbed through the pages last night and it will make the perfect Christmas gift for Bobby's grandparents and for ME!!! Aside from the photos of Bobby that we'd already seen, there were some other really good ones. One, he's standing with his sunglasses on and has a cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth - VERY attractive! Another one shows a full view of him standing, shaving using a rear view mirror on a truck. He said that the photo was taken after sleeping by the side of the road for about 4 hours. He's in his chemical suit, and has his rifle over his shoulder - and a face full of dirt. It's one of my favorites!
Just wanted to make you aware of the coming of HOMETOWN HEROES.
