Can anyone recommend something? Son is bored with curriculum at school and having conflict with teacher. On this one, I agree with my son. I have the option of homeschooling this subject, if I can figure something out. What he has now is read a page and fill in three blanks. I think he is capable of a whole lot more than that! I think if he can do some research on events or people through the years he can work quietly in the school library during Bible period. We can do the rest of the work at home after school or before.

I can't recommend a specific curriculum (my kids are much younger) but I know The Old Schoolhouse magazine has some great reviews on such things. I just got my most recent copy just the other day. Here's a link to their web site:

It might at least be able to get you started in the right direction!

I tried that website, no real help there. I really didn't think this was would be so hard!

Try Sonlight--they have curriculum for homeschoolers. They offer a Bible course for all grade levels. You could also design your own course--take your ds to a large Christian Book Store and let him pick out a study that interests him. You two could do it together, have discussions, etc. It could be a pretty neat bonding time. Finally, my dd took a course called History of the New Testament---it's not a curriculum with a textbook or anything, but she really enjoyed it. Perhaps you could look into something like that via homeschool history courses (try Bob Jones or ABEKA). Hope something works out for you guys.

Could you talk with your pastor/minister or church youth leader about options? I'm sure they'd be more than happy to get you whatever you'd need, even if they had to research it a bit.

My oldest is 9th grade and we are doing an entire Sonlight core on church history. It is pretty intense, including comparing religions, apologetics, ect. I agree, your son could be doing/learning so much more! What kind of school do you use that gives you the option to hs some classes? Sounds interesting!!

Our kids are at a private Christian school, and really there are no problems other than the very weak Bible curriculum where he is bored, and that is combined with a personality conflict between my son and his teacher. the teacher is young, my son is smart and figured out early on how to push all his buttons. The administrator and Principal are awesome, totally cooperative. I will look into Sonlight. I really don't want to have to pay alot for a curriculum, we are already paying a hefty amount for tuition.

No, the web site is more to see the magazine - if you can pick up an actual hard copy, there are lots of ads from various curriculum providers.

I struggled with curriculum choices at the beginning of home schooling - as you know there are TONS and tons of options! Another resource to get a feel for what is available is through Christian Book Distributors. They have a specifically homeschool catalog available, which you can order free from their web site www.christianbook.com

We used Bob Jones (BJU Press) because I like something fairly structured, as opposed to having to piece stuff together from an outline. I've also heard good things about ABEKA, as another poster mentioned.

lacemouse, I sent for a Sonlight catalog, and also downloaded their online catalog. I'm not seeing the curriculum you mentioned. Is it discontinued?

thanks I requested thir catalogs for future refrence

We used Liberty Christian Academy at www.homeschools.org. It is reasonably priced and includes all the curriculum plus online support, report cards, diploma, and legal help if you have trouble with accusations of truancy. They will test the student to develop appropriate curriculum. We had no problems with them. I think it's around $300-350/yr, which you could easily spent just on curriculum yourself and not have all the other support services.
