With Memorial Day and the summer coming up, it's time for some homemade ice cream!
How do you make yours? I'd like some new recipe ideas.:sunny:

Sorry, no help from me. I gave up & sold my QVC Cooks Essentials Ice Cream Maker with extra cannister at our garage sale a few weeks ago. I never could figure out how to make it work.

The silly cannister, when taken out of the freezer, wasn't able to sit level on the countertop. This made it hard to connect the handle which was connected to the paddle/scraper. So I gave up. Machine was sitting on a shelf for several years so I dusted it off & got rid of it.

Too bad too, because I love ice cream & if you make your own you can control what's in it.

Good luck finding new recipes!

My homemade ice cream:

1. Drive to Dairy Queen.
2. Drive home!

Ice cream that made its way home!

I haven't made it for a while, so I do not have a recipe in my head. However, I recently purchased the ISI cream whipper (amazon, as well as kitchen stores, I imagine), that makes wonderful whipped cream virtually instantly. I had liked Redi-whip, but this beats it cold. Plus, I make mine without sugar. Check it out.

I am subbing! I have a cuisinart machine and I have made ice cream in it. However I don't really know too many recipes. I prefer the kind where you don't have to cook everything first. You know, just throw it in and turn it on?:cutie: I want to use it this year to make non-dairy ice cream. Does anyone have any recipes where I could use rice milk?

I have this Ben And Jerry's Ice Cream recipe book. I haven't used my machine in years, but the dark chocolate is out of this world. I also have the Cuisinart, and also a whipped cream maker that I love too!

Homemade Ice Cream
Basic Vanilla

2 cans sweetened condensed milk
1 pint whipping cream
1 quart half and half

If you want chocolate you can add a jar of hot fudge topping
Or you can add fresh pureed fruit to taste

These ingredients go into the container part of the ice cream maker. Give it a stir, put on the lid. You need to check your models directions first of course, but what you basically do is surround the closed container with layers of ice and rock salt and then turn it on. Plug it in/ turn it on, let it churn till it stops. Then it's done. It is a bit soupy at this point. Eat it or freeze it. Be sure not to get the salty ice in your ice cream when you take off the top, yuck! This is really easy and alot of fun. Every kid I know loves it.

Caramel Crunch Ice Cream Sauce

1/4 c margarine or butter
1/3 c chopped or sliced almonds
1/3 c light corn syrup
1/3 c packed brown sugar (I like light)
1 T water
1/3 c crisp rice cereal coarsely crushed

In a medium skillet melt margarine or butter. Add almonds; cook and stir over medium-low heat about 5 minutes or till browned.
Add the corn syrup, brown sugar and water. Heat and stir till bubbly and the brown sugar is dissolved (about 4 minutes). Stir in the rice cereal. Serve immediately over ice cream. Did you see my recipe above, they are delicious together! Recipe makes about 1 cup of topping. Sometimes I leave out the almonds depending on who's eating it. If I'm serving this for dessert after dinner with company I'll have all the ingredients pre-measured and ready to go.
Enjoy, Mary

I haven't used my ice cream maker in years. I prefer the recipes that don't require cooking. One of my favorite recipes was for a cinnamon ice cream. It was delicious. I'll have to try and dig it out and post it.

I'm the same way, don't want to have to cook it first. I like easy, especially when it's tasty too!

Our family makes ice cream with:

2 cans condensed milk
1 2liter bottle soda

That's it!

Our sodas of choice are orange and root beer. Basically, anything that goes well with cream is a winner.
:yay:

Here's the recipe that's been passed down in my family.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

6 eggs, beaten
3 c sugar
3/4 t salt
6 c whipping cream
3 T vanilla
milk

Mix eggs, sugar, salt. Blend in whipping cream and vanilla. Pour mixture into can using milk to rinse the remaining mixture in bowl. Fill can (to line) with milk. Refrigerate until ready to use.

This is way too good to make more than a couple of times a year!! This is a special occasion ice cream! haha

My mom also makes a wicked good chocolate recipe that I don't have. It involves melting Milky Way bars...yum. You can Google it for some ideas.

We also used to make Milky Way ice cream when I was a kid! I TOTALLY forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder. I will have to get a recipe and whip some up. Mmmm.
